Thank you so much for your reply, that seems like a good practice to get into. What grit/brand compound would you recommend? Not necessary but it will clean up any little deformations along the edge!!! Once you are sharp you'll only need to strop it after some heavier use.....I do it before I put my knives that I used to bed every day though.! Just habit and its kinda therapeutic![]()
I have a billy strop from Stropman who is now deceased (RIP) and the 4 compounds that came with.plus I also use a diamond emulsion fromNORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY A member here!!! Not sure if he sells compounds though.... Do you Don??? He should answer right here!!! He makes nice strops too.
I honestly have no clue what grit the compounds are just red, green, white & black..Black is the highest to red for polish...I'd imagine they're made pretty similar by all manufacturers though ..The emulsion is 1 micron..
I useNORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY 1 micron diamond emulsion on his strops...both highly recommended.
(The fact that he's one of the good guys on this site only adds to the value.)
