Guys,

I have not had this come up because I am usually a short distance from my truck or 4 wheeler in the woods, and most often just have a pack slung over my shoulder.

For a fixed blade of approximately 4 inches, how do you carry it so that it stays on your person while you are wearing a pack with hip belt?

Examples to consider for your advice would be RC4 and a Bravo 1. I would like to know for both since manufacturer sheath options are far different for each.

I just looked at one of my bags with the knife attached to it and thought how much I would prefer to keep it on me for times I am separated from my pack.

Thanks

I like to wear my blades on a neck lanyard, if that;s not your speed or the bladeis to heavy a dangler sheath is the way to go.

I have found that the thought of how everything is gonna line up on your belt and the actual way it does " lay " is 2 different things all together.
I have never worn a pack that had a waist belt that lined up with my actual belt. Maybe its my height or maybe I am built differently...but I can basically wear my knives wherever I want, and roll with my packs, depending on time in the field.
If you are having trouble with a single set up, maybe you could try something different. Your knives are gonna be on your waist, I would change my pack if it wasnt working, but I feel my knife is kinda important.;)

that is the problem i have with my kifaru omni-belt system. It just is a pita for belt carried items. I don't carry so much that i need a waist belt so i removed it but i would still like to get a traditional styled duluth pack that doesn't come with one in the first place.

I always have two with me, on occasion I'll have 3 but mostly just two. One knife is always on my person riding horizontal on my belt. The second is on my pack shoulder strap attached at chest level usually on the left side, tip up.

Add a stiff nylon webbing or leather drop-loop attachment to the sheath. Gets the knife handle lower than the padded waist belt worn on the packs. Packs that rest on top of knife handles will force the knife point out the bottom of the sheath sooner or later...found this out.

I wear my Mora upside down clipped on my shoulder strap. Knife on one side, GPSr on the other...Pretty convenvient

I just used some 550 cord to turn my regular sheath into a dangler... for me and my Mountain Smith lumbar pack, 4" - 5" from the top of my belt to the top of the knife is perfect. This is/was a cheap was to figure out what works for me... my next knife will have the correct dangler made for it.

This set up is for my 4" (8 3/4" total) Unscandi Bushcrafter by Ray Laconico.

I've faced this problem with belt sheaths & backpack hip belts and what I ended up as a solution was to strap a larger blade on my pack and carry a neck knife If i'm using a Tek-Lok on the sheath of the knife attached to my pack I can quickly transition it to my belt. Not all belt sheaths and backpack hip belt combinations are as problematic as others so you might want to test drive a few different configurations.

Add a stiff nylon webbing or leather drop-loop attachment to the sheath.

this.

if you've seen Avatar, you migh remember that Jake had to dump his pack when the big black beastie grabbed it.

his knife was on a dangler attached to his pants belt, rather than the pack, so he dumped the pack, but kept the knife.

Excellent TKAZ. me too...except I'm a lefty, so my packstrap knife is on the right side.
Used to be Izula...now it's HEST horizontal carried on my left side, belt.
(then add a necklace of junk that includes another small fixed blade)

I typically wear mine on my left pack strap, though depending on your lumbar pad and hip belt you could get away with mounting it there too. If you have a vertical sheath and horizontal lashing points, just use 550 chord or some ballistic nylon webbing to strap it on.

I wear all knvies on a drop-leg sub load, as well as my PSK. Folder in pocket and the rest in the pack, might have a small fixed on my belt, but its IMB in the small of my pack, or over my right hip.

Here we are, psk on left leg is hidden a bit by bottle, but you can see how It usually is. Also, while wearing a Falcon II, the vest, pack and leg rigs set in perfect synchronization, I like it.

Koyote makes a nice sheath that has sort of an adjustable belt loop that you can either make ride fairly high or drop slightly below your pack belt.

Normally I just wear the knife under the belt.

I added a carabiner to a JRE bushcraft sheath and made it into a dangler. I clip it on to my pants belt loop, not the belt itself, so it really stays out of the way. Please note, in this pic. the knife is not fully in the sheath.

I'm lucky! My pack is an old Swiss Mountain Ruck. It has no waist belt, and a huge capacity. Yet is very comfortable to carry even fully loaded with 75-85 lbs of gear.

So I can still carry my knife on my person.

Personaly I highly reccomend that you always carry your knife on your person. Even if it means finding or making special equipment to do so. (drop leg addapters etc.) That way you still have your knife as a primary survival tool even if seperated from your other gear.

Same reason I carry all my primary survival supplies scattered through my pockets rather than in my pack.

I just picked up a Ribz frontpack and it allows the carry of a bunch of equipment and the pockets are big enough to include a 6 inch bladed knife in as well.

Guys it took me a while to get what you are saying. I had no idea what a drop loop was as far as being something I created in my garage or something commercially made. Google helped me to fully understand what you guys were referring to but I am GTG now. I already have Sharpshooter sheaths for both of the knives so I will order Sharpshooter drop loops to try out.

Thanks to all.
