Thanks for letting me join, I mean that, not just being nice. So reassuring to know I'm not alone in being interested in knives and collecting them. Or, perhaps spending more than I should. About a year ago I bought a slim Bowie knife because it looked good, seemed a reasonable thing to do (as many purchases do) but I can't find any reference to that type of blade. Maker is Eloi Pernet, respected cutlery house, I've found coin knives, folding pocket knives and other items but nowhere have I found a Stag Handle Bowie. There is a thought at the back of my mind that it might be a carving knife, but it has a belt sheath and is stouter than a carving blade. I bought along with a Puma Hirschfanger (no serial number, so 60s?) and the Eloi is an elegant version. Any thoughts please? May I post a photo? Thanks for any help. I'm saving looking through topics and posts for later (I don't sleep well). Please delete if I have posted in wrong place or done something I shouldn't.

You'll need to post some pictures.....
Use Imgur or the like.
Upload your pictures to the host site, then copy the BBCode URL of the picture and paste it here.
The URL should be in this format, using IMG tags and have a .jpg, .png or .gif image type suffix

to produce a picture in line in the body of the post like this

Thanks, different from other groups I'm with, didn't know.

That's it! After searching online and in my reference books (also asked my good mate who's French) I found nothing. Please let me know how you found it so quickly, I'm impressed. So, it's not a carving knife then.

I originally searched for Eloi Pernet Hirschfanger and found nothing related, then I searched for Eloi Pernet Bowie and found it on the site Worth Point. T tltt ‘s post set me on the correct course. Sometimes luck is needed as well! 🙂

It certainly looks like a hunting knife to my eyes. It’s an impressive knife and fine piece for your collection!

Been wondering how I came up short when searching, I used every combination of those words, amazing, thanks so much. (got any idea what the winning lottery numbers are?) You have put my mind at rest, firstly the knife isn't a kitchen utensil and, secondly, others think it's a worthy piece. Thought I was loosing my touch for a while and picked up a knock off but it just feels so good in the hand. I'll sort out posting and put a pic up. Take care.
