Howdy!
I have a couple extra GWs and maybe an AD that I've been thinking of having customized. Has anyone had the handle or slabs on one of their smaller Busse knives replaced with something other than the regular Micarta or G-10, something a little more traditional-looking such as Tru-Ivory or Bone (giraffe or other) or even wood (such as Ironwood or Tiger Maple)?
Will Busse Custom Shop re-handle customers' knives upon request with something other than Micarta or G-10?
Any recommendations on who else might do this kind of work?
Thoughts? Advice? Unsolicited Scorn and Ridicule?
Thanks!
"Bloody Bill"

Best advice I can give as far as the shop is concerned is to call them and ask. I have never had anything re-handled either through them or any one else. There are some guys here who have done it themselves and had others do it for them. Hopefully they will chime in for you.

NEVER re-handle a Busse. It voids the warrantee, and is potentially dangerous.

If you have extras, you should give them away..:thumbup:

Since I have no extras (at least none that I admit to) you should send them to me...;)

If you MUST re-handle one, call the custom shop... I would bet they can help ya! If you want it re-shaped, draw out how you want it done, and they can help. River-8 did it with his HHFSH a couple years ago and it's SWEET!

here's a pic of an ergo badger that a previous owner had the scales replaced on. don't know if this is quite what you're after, but i think this is gorgeous work and love showing it off. scales are micarta and almost have a petrified wood look to them, the work was done by reece weiland. wish i could take credit for the photo, but all i can claim is ownership...

good luck,

I am shipping two knives in on Monday to get re-coated a new color and also new slabs. Garth is the man! Amy is the Queen!!!

if you think you may ever want to sell them, have the busse shop do it. If they do it, it will not hurt the value of the knives.

if you plan on using and never selling, have Ban do it, it'll be MUCH faster and will look awesome. But it does hurt the resale value a little when it was modded outside the busse shop.

+1 on the contact Ban. he posts here pretty regularly. Here is the Modded Active Duty I bought from him. He did the grinding and the handles.

It is my favorite knife and my regular EDC...

is RE-shaping your handles voiding the warrantee?

You'll find that most talk of "voiding warrantys" here is mostly tongue in cheek. What it will do is void the warranty on the parts in question that are modified. In other words, mod the scales, and the scales arent' covered under warranty. The rest of the knife is fine however.

Thanx also is satining the blade voiding the warrenty on the blade?

I think the shop handles that on a case by case basis.

Yeah, Jerry did post something to the effect that, if secondary modding thins out the blade so much that it can't stand up to hard use, then Busse Combat would have a harder time honoring the warranty.

Thanks for the answer on the handles Ban. And for the record, the only ones who can take credit for the looks of the AD are Jerry and Ban. I just carry it around and look tough?
