Advice On An Older Model 112

I need the guidance of the experienced hands on this forum as to what to do with an abused Model 112. Review the attached pictures and you will see a 1972 vintage Model 112 in reasonably good (I didn't say great) condition. The worst part is that a previous owner scratched his road name and affiliation on the left scale (he was a member of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club).

So my question is this: If I have new scales added to this knife, then what should they be in order to keep the knife's value. By value, I do not mean just re-sale value, but more broadly, the heritage or history of this Model 112. I do not consider the history with the scratched name to be a good one.

An option is to do nothing, leave the knife as is, and just use it as an EDC.

OneStone, Your 112 is definately a 1st Version 2nd vari.. So, historic and of value . I have one similiar . If your going to display it, put it up to keep or want it original . I'd contact Leroy Remer at 619-561-2442 as he worked for Buck close to those years, may have the spare parts, knows those models and is set up to do that type of work . Your in luck as micarta is easier to match than ebony and would only have to replace one side (maybe) . I know he has those small pins as he did one for me . I've seen that model sell for more than 100$ so, your call about putting money into it . Hope this helps . DM

I'd be interested to see what Leroy could do with those larger gouges on the butt as I have a 112 and a 110 that have a couple and other than that are beautious. Like DM says, cool to have a classic:thumbup:

Micarta??? DM the scales on that 112 are wood not Micarta. I'm not an expert on wood so if that is Segua wood it's a third version and if it's Macasar Ebony it's a fourth version.

The dings in the brass can be easily removed to make the knife as new condition again. The art work on the wood scale is a different story.

Gentlemen,

I appreciate your comments and suggestions. As to the Version-variation matter, I'll look more closely at the table Joe Houser has here to see how I'd type it. Exactly where in Joe's data do Model 112's start?

As for restoration, I'm much in favor of replaced scales with like wood ones, probably my Remer. I'd like to keep the knife as close or 'original' as reasonably possible.

JB, Your correct ! I hurriedly looked and started typing . That is Macassar Ebony and both will need to be replaced, unless a match can be found .
Thats not a cheap fix . Thanks for bringing this error to my attention as to give me a chance to redeem myself . :D
I'll try to slow down . DM

OSFly, I watched that one on the bay...thought it would make an interesting piece as is.

I figured that someone with an affect for the MC gang(Goose) connection would grab that up.

You certainly can do what you want with it but if, in fact, it is from an Outlaws member it has unique history. I'd be sorry to see that go.

Wish I hadn't passed on one like it at the last gun show...I'd trade you:). Preston

i am not glorifying motor cycle clubs and some of the violent acts they commited, but even a criminal appreciated a quality blade, and i personally consider that one a bit of history. just like the Tommy gun was saught after by criminals, so was a good knife.

If I owned it, I would just reprofile the bolsters and polish them. There are a lot of ways to clean it up.

I have a 110 that I salvaged that had a name and SS# scribed into the bolsters. I just ground them off and polished them.

But that's just me:D You have lots of choices StoneFly.

Looks like Segua, but better pics of the inlays will tell us for sure, and a trip to Leroy will have it mint...at a minimal price.

Scott, I stared at that last photo a lot and my segua wood is open grained like that but not as dark . Maybe I'll stare at it some more ... O, forget, I'll go with you . I'm in a good mood my wife made mule deer meat stew with potatos, home made tortillas and fresh salsa . Gotta, go !! DM

Wait! I'll change my reply for some good mule deer stew:thumbup:

JB,

From the information in Joe's 110/112 file, how did you reach these conclusions? There must be other data on which woods when that you have in order to type my old Model 112. The best I could do with the information and knife I have is 1972 since the knife matches the 110's that Joe describes as Fifth Version, Second Variation. Is there another file on the Model 112's? Thanks.

Stone,

I believe the 112 data has been removed from that thread but the title hasnt been changed and it is all 110 data at this time. It confused me when I got mine as well and these guys straightened me out.

OneStone, Please be patient with us as we don't have everything available yet . Someone will be along to tell you how to find that data . However, I can tell you (and I'm looking it up so I get it right) that your Segua wood model 112 is Third Version, 1st variation of 1973 . But not made for all that year, they are hard to come by and in excellant condition of good value . Yours also has nice color in the wood, a plus .
I'm glad you procured one and nice photos . DM

Even though everyone who has written earlier I consider knows more than me , IF asked what I think........I think it is a 4th version ebony......wood looks striped. Just jumping in for the fun of it. Send it to Leroy, he will put it in the line-up and will eventually send you a mint looking knife. 300bucks

OSF,

Take a look at your email. The 112 data was sent.
