I got what I felt was a nice deal on an end cut piece of Black Arkansas stone at BLADE this past weekend, it is about 12"x7"x1.5" thick. I am looking for tips on how to build a 'box' to house it in. Dan from Dan's whetstones recommended I build a 'frame with a bottom' and fill this with Bondo, and use a release agent on the stone, so I could pull it from the Bondo before it completely set up, and be able to set it back in there where it would sit stable for use from then on. Just looking for tips, or experience with something like this.

I made a sharpening stone holder out of some MDF. I traced the stone, then used a router to make a bed about 1/4" deep. I added some 1"x1" pieces the width of the box to each end for legs, then put 3 or 4 coats of Spar Urethane on it. Works great, and since I had the materials on hand from previous projects, the price was right.

Thanks gruntmedic, that's the kind of info I was looking for, stuff to help me formulate a game plan.
