advice on choosing a new knife

Hi all
I'm looking for a new knife. something that I can get for up to 75$. it's going to be a working knife - working with wood, battoning, chopping shrubs and branches in the yard. stuff like that.
what I was looking at right now are the BK9, BK7 and the KaBar Grass Machete.
thing is - the BK9 is too pricy, and the Machete looks nice but I think it's too big, and I'm not sure if the blade is thick enough for the kind of work I'm planning, plus I like a knife where the point is lower (like a bowie).
I'm open to ideas.

thanks in advance

Some people don't like it, but I'm a big fan of the Ontario SP2 (Air Force Survival). You can buy one for less than half your price.
I don't know if you'd want to go the stainless route, but the SOG Seal Pup Elite isn't half-bad either.
