Hey Fellas

I want to get a decent digital camera but don;t know much about such things. The Fuji f410 has been highly recommended. What would you fellas recommend ?

I checked out digital cameras for a couple of years before buying one. I looked at cameras with up to 5 MP, but 3.2 MP is plenty good for anything I'll use it for, and I became more interested in physical size and weight, along with both versatility and simplicity of use. Decided I would spend up to $500, maybe even a little more if necessary, but kept coming back to the Nikon Coolpix 3200, which was a hair under $250.
If I broke or lost it today, I'd buy another one just like it, and that's the best review I can think of for any product.

Canon s400 here 4.0 megapixel

Im a total dumbarse and bought the one that was best for the $$ at the time. I am beginning to think my camera is smarter than me and is planning on taking over the world. Save me please, send unmarked dollars and infi.

Just got a Canon A75 on sale over here. Haven't been able to find the time to figure it out yet. I tend to mess up computers. Got it from a small local camera specialty store. Recomended by a photographer/graphic artist friend.

One of my friends got the same camera about a month ago, he really likes it. He has been going out four wheeling here in the islands by himself after work just to goof off and take pictures-some good and some bad.

I guess it would depend on what you want to do with it. Are you going to just take pictures of your Busses and put it on the net :D or are you going to print the pictures? That would be a big decision on the number of megapixels.

One thing that was important to me was durability because I was going to use it while 4wheeling and fishing/freediving (that is different from catching).

One option that I wish that I had was a screen that would tilt out and swivel because sometimes we hold the camera low to the ground or overhead-since I'm short while taking pictures when off roading. If you are going to be doing a lot of copy work that would help too.

I'll post some knife pictures when I have some time. Maybe some pictures of Diamond Head in the background with Busses in the foreground. Jerry said that it was in the 40s on Friday, I didn't have the heart to tell him that it was in the upper 80s here.

One more thing,

If it is possible for you, support local small business! An older friend that took me under his wing a long time ago taught me a lot of lessons. "Price, quality, service. Pick two. You can't have all three."

You can find all three, but brother it ain't cheap. ;)

Brendan, Follow the link in my sig below to my Japan travelogue page. Sorry about no pics in the Gallery yet...they are on the way, hopefully in a few days.

My impressions of the Nikon Coolpix 4300 (4 mega-pixel auto-focus pocket camera) are in the Loadout gear section. There's a link to a comprehensive review of the Coolpix 4300 in the Ackowledgements & Links section. The fact that it is one of only three items I considered to be essential War-Horses on the trip should give some indication of my level of affection for the camera.

I took nearly 3,500 pics with it while in Japan. It worked really well and didn't let me down. As with Tyuio's situation, the camera has more capabilities than the driver. ;) It's small enough to be pocketable, decent macro capability, 3x optical zoom + 4x digital zoom, 2,200+ pics on a 150 Mb CF memory card ($150 aftermarket purchase), plenty of pre-sets to match particular scenarios (inside shots, cloudy days, beach/snow, night time, etc).

(edited to add) Here are some links to pics I've taken with the Nikon Coolpix 4300:

I've got a Cannon PowerShot A80 that I really like. 4.0 Megapixels, full auto mode for snapshots, but also has the ability to shoot in aperture priority, shutter priority, full manual and several sceen-specific modes. Has a macro and a 3X optical zoom, takes movies with sound (great for the grandkids).

Happy hunting!

Well, my father ran an eletron microscope for over 20 years and I was raised on photography. I just got the Sony 828. I've never owned a better camera, digital or film.
But see for yourself:

While many of the digital SLRs may give better image quality or have other features, you'll be spending at least as much again on lenses as for the body, and for good lenses like the Canon L series, as much for each lens as for the body alone.

The 828 is the best package there is for its size, weight, resolution, lens quality, and price, even though it MSRPs for about $900 right now.

But if you own Busses, you know better than to compromise, right?

Tom
