Advice on First Busse

I am looking to buy my first Busse, but I have to admit I am totally confused by the number of different models. Busse's for sale usually do not have dimensions listed, and even with pictures, it's hard to tell if that's what I'm looking for. I have smallish hands (ring size 10), and want a ~4 inch blade for all round camp use. Don't need a chopper. Suggestions please (with pictures if possible) so I'll know what to look for.

You want a CABS or a CABs LE which stands for Choiless Anorexic Boss st.... it maybe the best small knife made by Busse.

Top two here are CABS

Bottom knife here is CABS LE

What would be some of the activities that you would be doing with the knife? That might help us with suggestions.

Real Busses are the big ones! get an ASH1, FBM, SFNO, as one of your first.. at smallest enjoy a Hellrazor, BATAC "preferably the LE" or a SJTAC...

Unfortunately, the Basic 4's were only offered until the end of December. Too bad - always a day late! Thanks for the recommendation.

I want a knife for general camp chores - slicing food, cutting materials for cordage, making fuzz sticks, notching sticks for various uses, whittling, gutting fish and the like. I have a Ron Hood Hoodlum chopper that I'm happy with. The basic 4 looks good, as well as the SAR4. Their handles look deeper than a CABS. I'll keep looking for sales. Let me know if any others come to mind, and I appreciate all of your recommendations.

If you are considering the SAR 4 or 5 then the Muk falls in that size range and so does the BATAC. All are great choices for a decent sized belt knife, but a Scrapper 5 (LE or SE if you want INFI) is the lightest.

The whole SAR series. SAR 8, SAR 6, SAR 4 on the left. SARsquatch, SAR 5, SAR 3 on the right.

Most of those are mentioned are on the exchange now if you search for them. ;)

I have 2 Basic 4's on order and may not be able to afford both of them. I should know in a couple week's if I can swing both. I will keep you in mind if you sincerelly want one of them.

I agree, infi is most fun as a chopper. IMO everyone in America should be required to own a FBM in one form or another, then we'd know every house would have at least one good tool. I could go on a tirade about conscripted military service where you keep your rifle at the end of your term like some countries in Europe but that's neither here nor there :D

I don't care who you are that's funny right there. Looks like the FBM ate the Muk then they did a cross section.

here's the difference between magnum and regular sized handles. magnum, on top, at about 3/4" overall thickness, regular about 5/8" overall. both blades (Tank Buster with green magnum handles and FBM with regular black canvas) cut from about 1/4" stock.

I'd have to put another vote for a CABS. Some think the handles are kind of thin--you could add liners or also try out a SAR3 (3.25" blade) or SAR4 (4.875" blade). The ergonomics are pretty different. The Basic 4 seems like it would be a good fit, too, but the common folk have yet to hold one.

Good luck on your first Busse.
