Hey guys I'm new here and thought I'd ask for some advice. I have some hollow handle crk knives and have finally decided to pull the trigger on a large sebenza 21. First question is, it looks like new prices are the same at most shops but do you have one you prefer? Also do you ask for anything in particular when ordering as far as lock up and such?
Thanks for your time!

You are right... all dealers are required to sell for list price, and there is enough demand they have no reason to discount. For a plain jane you would be good to just buy here on the exchange. You can always send it to the spa and still save money. If you want something a step above its more who has the model you want then anything else. Lots of good dealers to work with and people can't post links to dealers that are not BF members.

Thanks Driften the only other model I was considering was a large 21 with micarta inlays but Im leaning towards plain for the first one.....I think. ( ;

Both the Plane Jane and micarta inlay are great knives. If you buy on the exchange you may be able to pick up a decent deal(this is where you might want to ask some ?'s about the knife). Many have not seen much use, maybe some pocket time(many members have a lot of knives so no knife sees a lot of use). If buying from a dealer, you might use one that supports the forum. They are all good, and will go out of their way to make sure members are satisfied with the purchase.
I like to buy on the exchange and get the discount, some others prefer to buy new.

Thanks guys! If I buy new I will definitely use a vendor that is a forum member. I assume by the exchange you guys mean in the crk knives for sale section? Also is "wanting to buy threads ok?
Thanks again!

I always recommend a large Plain Jane for a first CRK. Insingo is my preference, but if you prefer the traditional drop point that's good too. I still get excited to carry my large PJ Insingo, and I've had it for 3 years. It's a timeless love. :)

There are a lot of great CRK vendors. For what it's worth, I do almost all of my business through GPKnives. They're amazing to work with. They respond to e-mails and phone calls promptly, they take the time to answer any questions you might have, and they'll look over the knife prior to shipment to ensure proper blade centering, lockup, no fit and finish issues, etc. They ship fast, too. Great guys all around.

Hey thanks anarchy84 I appreciate the info! I've looked at the Insingo a good bit and it's definitely a handsome blade but I do wonder how practical it would be for daily use. I do facility maintenance so I use a knife for all kinds of different work. Do you find the Insingo has any shortcomings as far as the blade shape?

Here's my thought -- check out some of the large 21's that may have a graphic design or CGG that you like. For me, due to the price of a Sebenza, I knew I wouldn't be buying them all the time, so I found one caught my eye (two actually).

That was better for me than just buying a plain 21.

Two other thoughts from my limited experience:
1. They seem to hold their value fairly well if you decide to sell it
2. I don't regret the money spent and for me, this was an expensive knife!

Welcome to BFC john jr !!!!!
If you've never used a sheepsfoot/wharncliff type blade for daily work, you may be in for a pleasant surprise. There's a thread here in the CRK forum that folks talk about how much they love the insigno blade. They make an excellent daily use knife. Of course, there's nothing wrong with the clip point either. I'm a traditionalist and while the insigno is a great knife, I prefer the clip point. I've only got the one large insigno and do use it from time to time.
All the pricing is the same, just remember, if you buy from a BF dealer, IMO you're getting top notch service. Just go read the Feedback forum and you'll understand. I was in your shoes and couldn't decide, so I bought both.
Good luck in your hunt and post pics once you get your new CRK.

Honestly, I find the Insingo blade much better for most EDC tasks. I work in IT, and I maintain an apartment building in exchange for low rent. I do all sorts of home improvement type work, run and strip cables, etc. I also use my knives to open mail, Amazon packages, break down boxes, etc. Both blade shapes are great, but unless you're going to be skimming animals, I think the Insingo is better.

Call me old fashioned, but I strongly encourage people to get a Plain Jane Sebenza first. It's just classic. You'll beat it up a little, fall in love with it, and want to buy more - guaranteed. Then you can get some fancy inlays, but your PJ will always be there.

Just my two cents.

Man thanks guys for all the input I sure do appreciate it! Seems like a good bunch here wish I would have joined sooner!

You'll find differing opinions here, but they're all based on personal experiences. People genuinely want to help, and that's what makes it awesome.

I'm excited for you to get your first Sebenza. Part of me wishes I could go back to having zero, so I could open that first box again. It sounds crazy, and exaggerated, and fanboyish...but there's just something magical about that first Sebenza.

I just bought my first sebenza, a small insingo loved it so much I bought a large 21 insingo 2 days later. Now if only CRK would colaborate with sal and give me a sebenza with a spydie hole, forward choil and maybe a flipper tab id have my perfect edc. Until then ill be carrying a sebenza. As for your question both blades are attractive but that insingo has served me very well and I would recommend it to anyone. As for inlays or no keep in mind that you can have the plain ones refinished for a small fee (30 bucks?) but the inlays cannot unless im remembering wrong. So if you plan on using it everyday you may want to keep that in mind.

The micarta can be re-blasted without removal(woods they don't do)) and there is no charge to do them or the plain-part of the free spa treatment now.
