Advice on Micarta

I have worked with wood and bone. I have no idea what goes into the finishing process for Micarta. Any advice or suggestions would be great.

Thank you,

If you're going to bead blast the blade, you can also blast the micarta and handle pins and give everything a nice frosty look. Again, as CHIRO75 says this will provide a nice grippy handle even when wet.

I don't personally care for Micarta that isn't high-polished, but that's what makes us individuals, right? For a high sheen, follow Mr. Tichebourne's instuctions but, in my experience, expect to take longer doing it. It's really hard stuff and may require you to do a lot of hand-work to make sure that all those annoying little rough areas are gone (easy to spot because they're lighter in shade when dry). Most compounds I have do very little cutting on Micarta, so scratch removal either means a lot of buffing or hand-sanding 320-600 grit. That's my experience, anyhow. I haven't worked with too many woods, but they were all very soft in comparison.

Thanks for everyones response. I am new to this forum, but I think I am in the right place. I should have said "white micarta". I was shocked and very pleased by the response to my question

White Micarta is hard to work with. I have tried it & like the finished product, but no longer use it due to the difficulty in keeping it "white".
I now use Antique or Bone......

This may sound a bit crazy but...... I made a fillet knife a while back with a white macarta handle. Needless to say, everytime I use it, its a mess. I clamp the blade in my Workmate, set it up in the driveway and about 30 seconds with the power washer and presto! It looks like new again. I have done this with newly finished knives too! There is always that last darn smudge with that material. Once I use the last of my supply of white I will only use the antique color!!!!!!!
