Hello everyone. I am hoping someone can give me some advice. In the near future, I will be buying myself a present and have decided to get a "nice" knife. My current knife experience is limited to Becker, KaBar, Ontario, Tops. I considered Busse, but none of their current lineup really appealed to me. I came across the Ratmandu and it looks like an incredibly comfortable knife, but I am having trouble visualizing how big it actually is. I am hoping someone with more experience can tell me how it compares in size to a BK16/17, Esee 4, or a Tops BOB (knives I have experience with). I know the specs, but some knives feel much bigger/smaller in the hand than their specs would lead you to believe. I absolutely love my Tops BOB which is my current bushcraft knife, but the bow drill holes make it a little uncomfortable in some positions and I will take a choil when I can get one....the Ratmandu seems to solve those issues but I worry its too big for an all around bushcraft/belt knife.

Any size comparison pics would be greatly appreciated. I have seen it compared to the Esee 6, but I have never seen one of those in real life either.

I am sure that someone will be along shortly with more knowledge on the other brands that you talked about. As for me, the RMD is an amazing all around blade. The ergos of the RMD IMO are some of the best ever. It is very comfy in any position.

The RMDs choil really gives you the ability to use it everywhere you would your Tops but the slightly extra length will give it a bit "more". Also I will caution you about one thing with the RMD you will likely sell off all your other fixed blades because its that good.

Josh is right it really is super comfortable which is why I think it has been on sale for so long. In my humble opinion the RMD is the best knife to ever come out of any of the Busse shops.

Got pics, RMD and ESEE 4. Gimme some time to convince my camera that I want the pics on my PC and I'll be back asap. Stupid camera is selfish! :p

Finally got it!! The camera was feeling generous! :p

As you can see the RMD has a much longer handle, which is good as I think the handle on the ESEE4 is a bit short. Blade length is about an inch shorter and thickness is about the same except for the original release of the RMD that is a little thicker and has radiused edges on the spine. That reminds me, I really need to get me one of the newer RMD's just because. :)

Just get the Ratmandu...you will love it. I don't guarantee many things, but I'm confident in this one.

I really appreciate the pics! It seems that the Ratmandu is almost the exact same size and weight as my Tops BOB, but with a little more blade. I am glad you posted that pic, the RMD isn't as big as I thought and looks like it would be a pretty handy bushcrafty size. It just so happens that Busse is coming to the gun show here in Columbus this weekend, maybe I will get lucky and they will have an RMD there for me to fondle.

Glad I was able to help! :) If its the show I'm thinking of please send my salutations to Hammy aka ThatMguy, aka Mike. :D An old and dear friend whom I've never met in person. I envy you.

I never cared for Esee ergos, but here are some comparisons with Beckers.

The RMD is a knife you can't possibly go wrong with.
It's the perfect size and fit. It can also be used as a skinner.
I just got a Custom Shop RMD Bowie that is a dedicated skinner
and sharp as a razor. Get the RMD, you won't regret it.
