Hello
I want to purchase a small folder that features single hand opening. I don't want an assisted opening knife. I would appreciate some recommendations.
Thanks

Maybe a 2 or 3 inch blade. I would prefer serrated. I tried some knives with thumb studs and was not able to open with one hand. Perhaps there is a technique? Or maybe I need stronger hands! Are some easier to open than others? I make my own hunting knives but a folder is a bit out of my skill level at this point. Come to think of it, I would be interested in a kit.
thanks

The large round holes that Spyderco uses are among the easiest to open one-handed, just pick your favorite pattern. I'm also a fan of the Featherlite from AG Russell and the Benchmade Griptillian.

About the smoothest and easiest knife to open one-handed is a micarta handled lockback from Soque River. I've never seen them for sale anywhere though, just once on a closeout deal.

What knives with thumbstuds have you tried? Some of the cheapies can be pretty stiff. But you should be able to open a well made knife with thumb studs with one hand. Benchmade makes a lot of nice stuff. Spyderco makes holy knives that are also designed to be opened one-handed.

For kits you could look at:
Texas knifemaker's supply
Knife and gun making supplies
Jantz supply

They all carry kits. I have not tried any of them though.

One hand opening, fully serrated, no thumb stud, 2 to 3 inch blade? Look at Spyderco, there must be twenty knives in their line that fit that description.

I second the spyderco brand, sounds like a delica would work very well. I've had several over the years and have never been disappointed. later, ahgar

i would go for a 3'' spyderco delica.
spyderco holes are much easier to open with one hand than any thumb stad folder imo
Second choice would be smth from crkt with a flipper like the smaller 3'' m16.really easy and fast to open using the flipper(half serrated)

Many people have trouble with thumbstuds because they try to push the thumbstud outward from the knife. The easier way is to push it forward, towards where the blade will be when open.
