I want to buy a slipjoint. 2 blades, size 3”, 2.5” I really don’t know.
Something to keep in you pocket and use for general light duty instead of pulling out a big scarry tactical folder. A second knife to slip in my pocket for EDC. I don’t know jack about them. I have seen CASE but know little about others.
Can $50 get me a good one?
Blade Steel?
Materials?

Any opinions?

Thanks

So one will be a light duty folder, and one will be for EDC?
Well, for the EDC, some sort of Swiss Army Knife will do wonders. The Cadet is 8mm thick due to the amazingly thin, durable scales. That's the same thickness as a Classic. It is very easy to resharpen the blade, which the shape lends itself to. Its edge retention isn't something fantastic, but definitely holds a workable edge.

Best Vic SAK EDCs in alox:
Cadet: Bottle opener, can opener, nail file, blade
Bantam: Bottle opener/can opener combo, blade (also 5 mm thick, which is thinner than an original SAK!)
Soldier: Bottle opener, can opener, reamer, blade

And, if you're not obsessed with alox, your selection explodes into many excellent models that I cannot cover. Just search around to find a good one.

Many nice choices from Case, Victorinox, and Buck in your price range. Personally I'd recommend (in this order) a SAK, a Buck 301 or 303 Stockman, or a Case Trapper, Canoe, or Stockman. All awesome knives IMO.

I've got a few Case slip joints, they're great, one of the few companies whose quality fifty years ago and whose quality now are pretty much the same.

There are many slip joints that will fill that bill, I lean toward the doctor knives for a slippie. I EDC a Leatherman S2 Juice (blade also a slippie) that is small, a little heavier though, but has several tools including a nice pliers and really pleases the sheeples. I keep my tacticals to myself. The blade and sissors and can/bottle opener is accessible without opening the tool.

My vote would be for a Swiss Army knife. They are made well, last forever and they don't scare anybody. Just pick a model that has all the blades and gizmos you want on it.

Swayback Jack with CV blades and chestnut bone handle scales. Don't know why, but that's the first thing that popped into my head when I read your post.

You need to link to this post in the traditional forum. You'll get LOTS of replies....

I molested/fondled a Case Swayback today...it had the quality that I grew to expect from case 20 years ago, but I haven't seen recently. It is a very nice knife, the size you want, and unique. It was a colab w/ Tony Bose.

2 blades?

I have a Queen Serpentine Jack that I like.
Runs about $45.
I have several Queens. They all have good fit and finish.
D2 steel. Probably will need reprofiling out of the box. But very decent stuff once you get a good edge on it.

One option might be Queen Cutlery. They offer traditional slipjoints in D2 in your price range or maybe a little more. However, they often need some significant reprofiling out of the box, which can be some effort with D2.

Swiss Army knives are wonderful, especially if you can find a use for the tools.

You would get more and better answers over in the traditional forum, btw.

If you want a real tough slippie, you have got to try the GEC Barlow or Jack, you can get a Tidioute for around $60-70 USD, they have the strongest back springs around and have nice wide blades(which I love the look of).

Ditto on the pie man. You cannot go wrong with Case CV SBJ in Chestnut bone. I bet you cannot buy just one! I got mine for 50 or so plus 5 to ship.

Here are some photos of a SAK Soildier, Stockmans, Bulldogg & Buck 303. A Spyderco Dyad though it locks. And last a 2 blade trapper. Lots of knives to choose from!;)

Thank you all very much.

I have 4 different company's to look at (Queen, Buck) I did not think of looking at these. So good lead. I also have a number of models to look for that will lead me to other models etc.

I needed a starting point because the number of choices are overwhelming and also fun to look at. I have been reading posts in the traditional forum as well. Problem is, they speak a language all their own and I need some education before understanding all those numbers, names, terms AHHH:eek:

No big deal, it's the way we all learn just about everything. As long as the journey is fun and if it's blades we are talking about, you know it will be.

Thanks again Gang!!!
