Gentlemen
If I could have your opinions please. I want to have a knife made with a "hot blued" blade. However I also would like good performance as to edge holding abilities. Your suggesstions on steel type would be helpful.

Terrill, 52100 will usually require a higher temp for tempering than the 10x and 5160 steels. My 52100 small knives are tempered at 450 deg and the large ones are at 500 deg. If the 52100 has been properly forged and normalized BEFORE the heat treat, there should be no problem with the hot blue.

If Darrel says 52100 I would go with that.. It is one of the best steels there is....period!
