Greetings y'all. I'm looking for advice on Bob Dozier's Arkansas Toothpick. Who has one? What do you use it for? What kind of sheath do you have for it? I've eyeballin' one of the ones they have on the bladeart.com site. I know of his reputation for building a great knife with a great grind of a great steel. I'm just interested in your opinions about this specific model. Thanking you all in advance for your answers..... Mongo

Doesn't anybody have a toothpick and wanna share?
Moderators... perhaps this should be moved to the Custom Makers Forum? Just looking for some advice.... I got the bug to buy right now! Thanking you all for your future replies....

First let me say this......
Bob Dozier makes outstanding cutting tools. I own two and they are far and
away some of the best blades I own. Bob & Linda are two of the nicest folk's
I ever done business with too. As to the toothpick Bob designed that knife
as a self defense piece complete with shoulder harness affair.

While I don't own that particular knife I do know that Bob knows how to
design a knife for a specific purpose and it will be so subtle that you won't
really understand Bob's genius until you own one of his knives.

If you want to see more of Bob's work go to A.G. Russell's site under
custom makers.Have a look at Bob's Stright Personel knife as a true everyday
carry knife. It is little but boy is it mighty, cuts like it's a foot long and is small
enough to carry in your work shirt pocket if you want.

Now that's cutlery genius........

I've had a couple of Bob's knives, including an Arkansas Toothpick. I found the handle on the Toothpick a little small for my hands (which are pretty meaty), and the slender blade is more of a self-defense tool than a utility one. That said, I think if you are sincerely looking for a self-defense tool, and your hands are on the small side, the Toothpick would serve you pretty well. If you just want a cool, EDC, the Toothpick would probably serve you pretty well there too. If you really want a knife useful for a wide variety of everyday chores, Bob (and others) make better knives.

Thanks guys for your replies. I do have a straight personal with ironwood handles on order.(sweeeet!:D ) But I found the lines of the Ark to be quite beautiful. Today, however, I found my new Dozier want/need..... I saw on page 10 of the march 2002 Blade magazine the pic of my new love. It is called "freedom fighter" and comes in two sizes: 7 in. blade with a 5&1/2 in. black micarta handle or a 6 in. blade with a 5 in. yellow micarta handle. Apparently this is a "slimmed down version of his old No. 8 ivory-handle fighter" MAN!!! what a beauty! I can't wait for my order, so I keep perusing various Dozier sites online and keep getting the bug for instant gratification.
Regards, Mongo

I have one with maroon handle and Inside the waistband sheath. I do not use the clip on the sheath, rather ran a loop of paracord through the sheath holes, then loop it around my belt and wear it tucked inside my waist band. Works great that way. Does not work well with the clip. You can do the same thing thing with the Horizontal Sheath. I am just not right handed, so like the IWB sheath or need a left handed horizontal. You can also carry either sheath in your pocket and the knife carries very well. Just use thumb to push off and the knife slips right out. Some of the handles they have on the ones at blade art are really cool. I do not like the vertical belt sheath though for such a low key knife. The horizontal carry and IWB are much better. The knife is scary sharp, nice and compact, smaller than it looks in pictures, and will penatrate most anything right to hilt. Very very pointy. But its surprising useful utility wise. Perfect knife for cutting around the butt hole of a deer to while dressing them out. I think this is the best knife carry knife Bob makes. Sort of his signature model. Very covert too. I cant imagine you would be disappointed. Bladeart.com always seems to have a good selection. Knifeart, has a cool variation thats not quite as pointy called a fighter. Tripleought design has the same thing in green handle. You will love it.

I have one and carry it in the cross draw holster.

This is one of the finest small fighters I have ever seen - especially for the money.

I carry one fixed blade fighter-style on my person at all times, and the ToothPick is one of my favorites.

I have gone a little bit upscale recently - carrying the Bob Lum mini stryker in the same place. (The real thing - not the production Spyderco...which is a nice knife all by itself...)

Dozier is one of the best makers out there, and don't be fooled by the low price - from what I understand - Dozier made a calculated decision to make working man knives at working man prices.

Also - as a knife maker (not specializing in Kydex work) - I think he delivers some of the best kydex sheaths with his blades.

Am I happy with my Dozier(s)? sure am!
