hello. im new here and just a girl so please go easy on me. can anyone please give me advice or info on what to do, where to go to obtain the appropriate permits/license to sell collector and fantasy knives in my home state only (mississippi)?? i am completely new to the knife world but ordered a large cutlery package and inherited a variety of fantasy knives that i would like to resale. i am not opening a store. i just intend to do local flea markets and maybe a knife show or two just to get rid of what i have but to do it legally. i dont want to be on my way to the fle market to set up and sale but get pulled over by the cops seeing the cargo area of my suv loaded with knives and wondering if i just stole them....... then im sitting in jail next to a murderer asking me what am i in for and i say oh i didnt have permits/license to sell some kitchen and fantasy knives.

can anyone please help point me in the right direction or give me advice of what all i need to do and what to get permit wise and where to go for it?? i live in south mississippi. i did download the knife laws etc. but it doesnt show or tell of where i need to go to obtain permits license .......

anyone help please.....

I can't imagine that any special permits are required to sell knives, as long as the knives you're selling are actually legal to own. However, there may be permits/licenses that are required to sell in a particular location.

For example: Selling stuff from your front yard would be legal, because you own the property. But, selling stuff in a public venue may require a permit issued by the local government. What I would recommend is to contact the local government of *where* you want to sell, and ask them if you need a permit to sell things. No need to tell them you're selling knives, just a permit to sell in general.

I'm a police officer, and I run into this from time to time with people peddling their wares on the side of the road or in store parking lots. The way our city ordinance is written is like this: If you are selling on the parking lot of a business, you don't need a permit to sell as long as you have the express written permission of the property owner that you are using to sell your stuff. However, if you are selling on property that is owned by the city, then you need a permit issued by City Hall. Nobody cares *what* they're selling, they just have to have a permit to sell... period.

Of course, that doesn't mean they can get a permit and then sell things like machine guns or drugs; just things that are legal to buy/sell/own.

I agree with the above post and just want to add that many places require you to obtain a re seller's number or permit. This is to make sure you collect sales tax on behalf of the city/state and send it to them quarterly. Many large flea markets require you to have this to sell at them.

The other members who posted are spot on. If you plan to sell at a flea market, you'll be fine with no permit, as you'll be receiving permission to sell when you pay for the lot from which to sell there.
