Advice please, breaking desert ergo set?

I have an offer to trade my desert NO for a Tali-Whacker, but am wondering if I should. It is from a numbered set of the desert ergos, and I don't know if I should break up the numbered set. I haven't gotten any offers for the whole set, either buying or trading, but for some reason it bothers me to break up a set of knives with the same number.

Would you guys break up a set to make a deal, or hold out for someone who wants a numbered set?

i would say the same thing, but i dont have enough money for such a thing to ever pass into my hands... so my opinion doesnt really mean much :)

A numbered series "can" be valuable, but remember these are nothing more than ergos, which probably run in the tens of thousands for quantity. Just because they have the desert coating won't raise their collector's value by leaps and bounds....at least not for several years.

That full set will be worth a good amount of money in the long run only. If you're willing to hang in there I'd recommend keeping them all together. If you're only planning for the short term I'd treat them like any other standard ergo.

I agree with the boys.

Keep the set most definitely! If noting else justify it by all the sleep you wont loose. ;)

I would not break up my set for anything. That would just defeat the purpose of getting the set to begin with. I don't know how many complete sets there were, but even individual knives were numbered like Alpha's BM that he was forced to sell.:( :( It was numbered even though it was the only knife ordered. That I can understand (even though I know it hurt like hell). That was one individual numbered knife, not one of three. That would leave an awfuly large hole my friend. Is a tali-wacker worth it?

My set is number 211, I think I was getting near the last, I’m not fast on the draw like some.:D

I appreciate the comments. I purchased the set when I had a lump of cash for a spontaneous purchase due to some other sales. Now I look at them and wonder if that much cash wrapped up in such a similar package is worth it to me. I could have three different knives, like a Tali-Whacker, etc, that each are unique.

Mike, I put a price on them, but this isn't a sale forum so I won't post it here. I'm more interested in the talk about whether to keep it a set or break it up to get individual knives I might want more. This is PRESUMING I don't get an offer for the set, of course I won't break it up if I can help it. I also won't use them because of the same idea, I don't want one of the set beat up with the others perfect. And that is a lot of money (for me personally) tied up in knives I don't use.

I also would probably keep the BM if I broke it up, because I do want one and it is a beauty. If I sell the set then I have to find and buy a BM... I know there probably isn't a good answer someone can give me, but advice is helpful and appreciated.

Frodo,
The ultimate decision is of corse yours, I personally would never sell mine. There going in the box with me when I die.:D

Besides I use mine every day, I take them out of the draw caress them, then put them back again.:D

If I had $300, I would just buy the Tali-Whacker... If money grew on trees I could simply use my Desert Ergos to wack some down. :) And if wishes were fishes, I'd need a INFIlay knife. :D

Frodo...(Man I first read The Hobbit in 1966. Read all 3 times since)

If the # isn't say the first five or so it's really not too relevant, as long as all 3 match IMO. I think mine is #53, but the difference in value between mine and yours is zilch. They will be worth a good chunk when they box them up with you.  :D :D

Taliwhackers are fetching $300 dollars these days? Man I am going to have to think about putting one up for sale then. :D

A Desert NO is not a fair trade for a Taliwacker. Although the Taliwackers are somewhat rare, they are basically a glorified Swamprat. They have the represineC handle and they are not INFI, they are SR101. I'd hold onto the NO even if I wasn't breaking up a set.
