Yesterday evening (three months to the day of getting it) I dropped my Horn handled Purna Chainpuri/Single fullered Chitlangi/Panchthar Chitlangi (you choose!) on a tiled floor. And it has developed a 1 cm crack, hardly visible, towards the edge of the brass buttcap. But it is there and its driving me crazy! Should I just leave it be?

Then again wondering if I should attempt to fix it with say Loctite (406) Super Glue, which I'll need to buy, or whether it's worth the hassle? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks.

P S Here in India we have something called Fevikwik, an epoxy cyanoacrylate super glue. It's cheaper than Loctite. Could I use it, if I so decide?

Update: after much research on these forums, went ahead and fixed the hairline crack with Fevikwik (see above), the cyanoacrylate. Cost about 20 cents. Let dry. Was reasonably pleased with the result. Then sanded the glue flush with 2000 grit sandpaper. But it left a matt patch around the crack - a permanent memory of this little episode! Oh well.

Make sure you sand away all the excess Fevikwik, then if you've gone to 2000 grit, break out the polish. A dremel or a bench wheel, that horn will polish up like new. Oil alone might rehydrate it and bring it back nice as well.

Thanks Bawanna: which polish did you mean?

Update: horn handle currently submerged in a bottle of neatsfoot oil. Will keep overnight.

Any polish will work. Your soaking will undoubtedly help.

Might just hit it with a wheel with just the oil.

Bawanna, the overnight soaking in neatsfoot oil did in fact rehydrate the horn handle. Which is a relief, since I have no access to a Dremel or bench wheel.
