im new around here but ive been admiring some of the custom made knives that the members have made. ive been doing allot of reaserch into knives and it seems that making my own knife would be a cool project, and just about the only way i can get my dream knife . so far ive done some sketches and mock ups of the knife i have in mind (a 6 inch tanto style knife (preferably a black one) , with a rounded oval shaped hilt, with the one side coming out at a angle for a thumb rest, i figured i could make the grip out of cord, or if that wasnt a good idea just use a wood handle like on the classic bowies, i was thinking of a stronger triangular shaped bevel with a loop for a lanyard type thing. my family is in the construction buisness so i would have at least some of the tools to do this but i have no idea where to start, the materials ill need, and the specifications as far as what mettal to use, thickness exc.
ive asked around but no one seems to know anything about making a knife, my godfather use to work for gerber knives, but he is on a retirement rv tour of the u.s.a so i doubt i will see him for a while.
