I've been trying to re profile a blade to about to about 13% and it's very slow going. The blade has a spine running down the middle of it and it keeps rocking {I Think} I tryed clay to stabilize it and no go. Perhaps I may be trying to take to much off at once.

The blade it's self is only 4 inches long and made of 440 steel, no ID. where it was made. Going to try sharpie trick just to see where I'm hitting. Also going to order 60 grit stone from Congress tool for faster cutting.

Any suggestions,

PS. I've only Had my Apex for about 7 months now so maybe I'm doing something wrong. Any help would be operated!

13 degrees (as I'm guessing you mean) is a pretty shallow angle, and will be tough to hold freehand on a stone. Also, it will take a lot of work, and I've seen reports that the 440 steels perform poorly at shallow angles. The edge just kind of falls apart.

Try it if you like. That 60 grit stone will help. I doubt that you'll find a 13 degree angle guide.

Best suggestion: a double bevel with an 18-20 degree terminal angle.

Major re-beveling takes a while, even on an edge-pro. One idea is to take it in stages, so you make a small adjustment to the bevel each time you sharpen. If you do it all at once, it can take hours.

Concerning the inability to hold the blade steady on the edgepro, I have had luck with several pocket knives by just setting the ricasso flat on the platform. This seemed to work much better than trying to deal with a curved blade surface that rocks back and forth.
