Advice requested: Using a Pelican Case to store knives

I have a Pelican Case that until recently I forgot about. I now plan to use it to store knives that I'm not currently using and have no home besides their sheaths.

So I have a bunch of questions about the best way to do this... is it better to store the knives on their sides or edge-side down? How deep should they be in the foam? How do you plan out space before you start cutting the foam? Etc...

I'd like this thread to be something people can refer to for insight and ideas. So any information (and pics please!) you can provide would be very helpful. I will do my own Pelican Case setup and post pics once I have enough info to know I'm not going to mess up my setup.

Thank you in advance!

What kind of Pelican case? They make different shaped cases, and the answer changes for everyone.

I have the 1300 (essentially a cube) and I do it like this.

What model # is your case?

That's a nice setup there, DB. My office desk drawer is looking less like a winner every day. Do you have a place you store knives still in boxes?

I dig the folder arrangement - mine is a 1550. I have mostly fixed blades but yes for sure I'll be doing the slot-method for folders. Thanks for the idea!

I have a similar Pelican case in my large gun safe. I have them all vertical with the tips down. I keep them oiled and lubricated and I also keep silica gel packs in the case. About every 4 moths I put the gel pack in the oven at 200 degrees for 3 - 4 hours. No problems for well over 25 years.

Thank you! What does heating the gel pack do for long-term storage purposes?
