Some time ago I bought a Ken Onion Edition Knife & Tool Sharpener WSKTS-KO (original version).

I am missing a part, as shown in the attached image. I want to use the Blade Grinding Attachment but I cannot attach the "Hub Fastener" because of the missing part shown in the attached illustration.

Is there some solution to using my Blade Grinding Attachment?

Complete newbie. Any advice is appreciated.

Have you contacted them about the part?

Watch the video and others online! Keep the blade moving, never pause, or part of your blade will disappear.

I know there has been some upgrades, to the Worksharp sharpener.

Did Worksharp ask which version you had? If the parts you have will attach to it?

I would think that they would've hooked you up. I would call back, and ask to talk to someone, that's in charge of assembly.

I got the impression that they wanted me to upgrade to the Ken Onion Edition Knife & Tool Sharpener Mk2. Not much attention was paid to my question.

Ask here, maybe someone from WS will answer, or maybe someone else can help.

The blade grinding attachment is indeed useful. Like anything, there is a learning curve. Correct angle, correct pressure, don’t round the tip etc. that part drives the belt so it’s important. Worksharp shows that piece in stock on the web. It has reverse threads so probably hard to make something yourself.

I use stones or an Edge Pro mostly, but there are times the BGA comes in very handy such as reprofiling or when you have a bunch of knives to sharpen and not a lot of time. Also for axes and such.

Thank you. That is quite helpful.

I now have it working. I added a short length of PVC and it actually runs very smoothly now. I am a bit shocked that it runs so smoothly.

What do you think of the risers you can purchase from third parties. Are they of much benefit?

Thanks again.

My experience is these units are not built to last, if you expect to do high volume sharpening. I purchased twice and had warranty replacements twice. Now I sharpen on a diamond plate or my knife making grinder.

David- you are referring to the Work Sharp or the risers?

I started with the KO and blade grinding attachment. It’s a good entry point for someone who wants to use a belt to sharpen. IMHO a variable speed Rikon or similar 1x30 is a lot more versatile for the money. There are some other brands specifically for knife grinding that look very nice. They’re all in the under $200 price range pretty much.
You will learn pretty quickly without a riser, just takes practice.

I have been thinking about this very thing. Thanks.

Mine looks just like yours and it works fine. The belt rides on that shaft. The part you think you are missing is somethiong I have not seen on Ken Onion. It could be that that drawing is out of date.
