Greetings, After extensive four-months' study, and after purchasing two Swamp Rat, and five Busse knives, I have some advice for the newcomers.

I was as bewildered as you are at the nearly endless array of Bussekin models; Customs; variations; and variations of variations. And what to buy? Its not like you can hand-test these at your local K Mart. What I did was to hard copy all of the production data I could locate on this, and other sites, and study them at every opportunity. After about two months of study while listening to the radio; eating a meal; or having sex - the data began to fall into place. I also - you do have to jump in the water at some time - ordered a couple of knives I thought I would like. I then traced these (a HOGFSH and ASH1, if you must know), onto a large piece of cardboard. I then made scale notations on these model's blade length; handle length; etc. This provided some reasonable estimate of future purchase size comparisons.

Well, there it is - a couple of tips to get you on your way. Hope it helps some of you folks. And always feel free to ask the very helpful members on this forum - many of whom are employees of Busse CK Co. There is a fantastic wealth of information here.

Good Luck in your journey through the fantastic world of Busse Combat Knives. It may become one of your most fulfilling escapades.

One question still remains for me, though. Why has there not been a book published that covers the Busse phenomenon? At the Thirty-Year Anniversary, this would be a natural.

Cheers...Tuica

Something that helped me a lot in the beginning was the knowledge that these knives keep their value. Don't be afraid to go ahead and pick up that blade that you aren't sure about... if you decide you don't like it, you can get your money back out of it on the secondary market and try something else.

Yep....you are MORE dedicated than I .... ;) OR....you are just not doing it right ..... :D

Or you could do like me and buy 37 Busse's in the first six months you are on the forum then decide which ones to sell at a loss and which new ones to buy and buy 20 more in the second six months. I can tell you first that most people including myself will slow their pace after that. Good luck!! You are going to need it. Oh and bye the way "Welcome to the madness!! There is no cure!!"

Except a Sus Scrofa. I now I'm gonna take a loss on those.

But then, there was a time when no one seemed to want Hell Razors, so maybe it's just a matter of time.

An important note for newbie husbands:

If you're married, and considering a Busse for the first time...unless you are freaking loaded...be patient...it'll probably take about 3-6 months of looking for opportunities to continually tell your better half about how freaking awesome they are, before you'll actually get the green light (without a great deal of pain) to go for it...just sayin'...:D

They are however, worth the wait...

No kidding, "the resale factor" is massive, and I can say from experience that if you do have to let em' go at some point for the more important things..you can, and then you have the bonus factor for the next time you have cash to play, in that your wonderful Wife knows that if push comes to shove, you'll get your $ back..(mega bigtime super ultimate thumbs up)..

You can churn through a PayPal account. Sell, then buy more from the PayPal fund, without spending any "real" money.

Just try a few, keep your favorites, sell a few, then roll the money into trying a few more.

There you go. With many folk's suggesting to purchase some - (wow Flatsman, that's quite an acquisition rate!) - try them, and sell the non-keepers. Just watch some of those high prices on that other site whose title rhymes with "Skihay." When I discovered Busse's, I dove into study everything I could about them. Have now "graduated" to the point where I can identify a: TMDSF with EU17 handles; an Uncle Mefo, (not Mofo); a Killer Bee, Green Hornet, and a Lipstick Razor. So study with diligence and fervor!...Cheers.
