Advice to newbies asking questions

Just thought this might help other newbies (like myself) when asking questions especially about advice on what knife or size knife is best. GIVE LOTS OF DETAIL about your specific situation like if your state has carry restrictions, do you also carry a gun , do you already have an EDC knife, what is the main purpose for this knife your asking about. When doing this you will get WAY BETTER advice back. The folks here on this site are AWESOME about helping you out but the more info you give them the better they can answer your questions. I have learned this by experience and just wanted to pass on what I have learned about asking for advice or recommendations. Hope this helps!

If I may add another bit of advice that helped me a lot. Check the stickys, most questions are answered in the sticky threads.

Also, utilize the search function. It saved me from repostinv the linen v. Canvas micarta handle question. There's a lot of info already listed here if you look for it.

Yup! Forgot that one. See, you learn something new everyday. Your absolutely right. Unless you're asking something super specific it's probably been talked about before and a quick search can answer most questions!

Very sound advice. Another bit of advice, if I may. Make absolutely sure when you register your user name, that you have spelled it correctly. I've seen some people accidently spell their user name with, lets say a "D", when they meant to spell it with a "G".

I've debated this with other folks here on the forums, most questions regarding knives, regardless of the maker, has been asked, archived or stickied somewhere before. BUT,

People like to talk to people. They like the human interaction, if you can call it that on the interwebs. I can read stickies all day long and learn a ton, but if all of the questions were just read in previous posts, we would not get to "chat" with others. Some of the best threads I have read, were started about one simple question, but turn EPIC in the ensuing discussions.

Read the stickies, but post your thoughts anyway. Just my opinion

Agreed. We obviously like to discuss knives and their use...lol, a lot of us pay to do :) The chatting and interaction are to me what makes certain forums and sub-forums more fun than others.

I agree with Moosey,
I like to see post if it is redundant so what I may not answer but a ton of other folks will and if not answered correctly I'll or another mod will help out.
People need to interact on here not just lurk

I agree, I like the conversation, that's what makes bladeforums (and all other forums) work so well. I still think it prudent to at least do some research before posting. Plus, sometimes posting in that old thread can just ressurect the dead.

Personally, I think "lots of detail about your specific situation" is just plain :yawn::yawn:

Keep it to knives, you'll get plenty of response.

How do i find the chat? I found it last night in a thread with a link but cant seem to find it anymore.

Thanks, im a newb.

If i cant find it I go into my account, click your name in the top right. then go to statistics... then it should be listed there. not sure if there is another way, but thats what i use. Im kinda new too.

hope you can find this thread again. lol

Well i didnt post in that thread, i just followed the link in it lol. Most forums have the chat option up there next to the search and user pc etc. bar.

A question asked that's been answered a thousand times doesn't bother me. Like others have said, chatting is fun. But don't get personal and have a sense of humor. Personally, I try to act as if I'm not safely in my home behind the anonymity of the internet but that we're having a conversation face to face. Be respectful, and ask away!

Definitely agree. I never feel stupid asking a 'stupid question' even though I prob. know the answer because I like the interaction with other people with similar interests. It seems to be the same with a lot of people here. You don't have a good message board without good, contributing members.

Even if they are asking what they CAN throw their knives at....
