I'm look for a knife with under a six inch blade with plenty of heft (1/4 inch is preferable). Under 60$ is my price range. I fancy the Ka-bar bk2 Campanion and the Ka-bar Warthog, I want to eventually ave both of them, but due to funds(or lack of) I am being forced to pick between the two. If anyone can help me with this burden of decision making please put your two cents in. I would appreciate anyone's opinion.
Ps. How do we feel about Tek Loks for horizontal behind the back carry? Worthy buy?

I only have a BK2, and have no experience with a warthog. Personally I don't feel that they are very similar, but perhaps that is just me.

I did find this though. Make sure you check out the 2 part test he did as well for more comparison info.

Also, I carry my BK2 scout style like that, and it works quite well. Its a bit heavy-ish to carry that way, but its not bad. I don't have any info about tek loks though, sorry :(.

Good luck :).

i don't have first hand experience with either knife, but i would personally go with the BK2.

here's my thinking:

the BK2 is a 1/4" of 1095CV hardened to 56-58HRC
the warthog is a 1/4" of 1085 hardened to 52-54HRC
this means the BK2 will have better edge retention, the warthog's steel will be a little tougher.

to me the warthog looks like it's more blade heavy, the BK2 looks more balanced.

you can replace the handle scales on the BK2, you can't on the warthog.

based on the sheath the design, i like the design of the BK2's sheath better.

BK 2

A little beast of a knife for $60.

Head on over to the Becker Forum and check it out some more.

depends on how hard your going to use the knife, a stick tang with deal with most of the tasks at hand but if you want a knife to do it all and then some the Bk2 will do you well. the Ka-Bar Mark1 comes highly rated as well

What do you want the knife to do well?

In BRL's review he found that the BK2 was much better at chopping and batoning, and about the same for most small work. It should be stronger because of its full width tang, and its a bit easier to mod, and should hold a better edge.

He found that the warthog would make a great knife for a "garden knife" It has a big wide blade that is great for digging, its pretty soft, so it will be easy to resharpen after hacking away at roots and things like that. The handle is comfy and it should be pretty sturdy.

Thats my two cents.

Both are great but BK2 because...

It whittles tiny spoons and forks and things...

It chops seasoned oak for no good reason...

It cleans fish...

It batons...

It poses majestically...

It survives nuclear blasts...

What's not to love?

As to tech locks and scout carry - I prefer horizontal in front but my son carries his BK7 scout style. No reason not to do the same with a BK2.

My only advise is if it come with that god awful glass filled plastice sheath ditch the sheath and make one from kydex. I have had bad experience with kabar sheaths. Seems like they dull your knife.

Actually, Kabar heard what was going on, and they fixed that issue. They lowered the glass content in their sheaths (I got a replacement BK2 sheath from them labeled "no glass"), and they don't seem to dull my BK2 anymore :).

BK2. It's a fine knife.

Of course, I just got the BK10 in, which is the same length, and if you had the budget for it, I'd pick one up from Ka-bar (call direct) before they're all gone. But a BK2 is a good knife to have.
