Advice Wanted...Fox Folly Decision

OK guys...help me out here. I can buy the Fox Folly. The $150 is gonna get the attention of my wife and not in a really good way most likely. Getting the Fox Folly is probably going to stop my khuk acquistion habit for several months, unless I can snag a UBBB Sarge or Bilton in the shark tank.

I also have a few holes to fill in my "tactical" needs. I hate that word tactical, but you know what I mean. The G19 needs new night sights (yes, they really do dim after 10 years). That oh so sweet S&W 642 Airweight is still calling to me for lightweight carry. So much stuff to get and so little time.

So, is this Fox Folly that good? Will it replace the Ang Khola that is on my short list of near term buys? If it were the only heavy chopper khuk in my collection, will I be happy?

Don't know if you guys can help me with this decision, but figure the responses might be entertaining. So what say you?

Jeff

I have no idea. But I am sure that you do. It is easy to get caught up in the latest group mania. But perhaps you have other needs that are more important at this point...

From many years of experience and hard gained expertise in such matters I can tell you...

Have it shipped to a buddys address...

I'm biased but I say buy it. You can always get your money out of it later because someone is kicking their own ass for not getting it while they had a chance. :p :D ;)

It is more your own taste than anything else I suppose. Yvsa is right though. You could resell it later for what you have in it without any problem! I have fallen in love with the constant curve khuk design. I tend to buy and use those most of all. If I had the choice between the 18" AK and the FF, I would get the FF for sure. Forward curving, Twin fullers, no cho creep, no habaki bolster. etc. etc. Can you tell how I feel about the new FF?
DO it!

Agree with Yvsa and Archangel. I wish I was in on the YCS and large Foxy Folly buys when they came around. This is a special order and may or may not become regular production. Also factor in the uncertainty in Nepal.

Devo, what's the largest chopping task that you see yourself as needing to perform? The FFs are seen by many as being the next best versatile khukuri offered by HI, and with its design should offer great chopping power for its size. I say go for it as it should be worth waiting several months before getting another khuk after it.

Hey, what's the rush? You can always order one next year...

and get it in 2008 if yer lucky :D
Most likely never :(

These are once in a lifetime deals. Trust me and do like Nasty says ;)

You're going to want to be in on this one. At 16.5" inches it is going to be a good comparison with the YCS - but quite a bit cheaper! Fullers make for beautiful khukuris....gotta see it in person.

Buy it, have it shipped, open it in front of your wife.....sure you'll be in the doghouse for a few days (weeks? months?) but if you're getting into knives and khukuris....better to drop a beauty-bomb on her, than a plain-ole khuk-bomb.

My wife has seen every khukuri I have ever owned, worked on, etc. She only complains about the "ugly" ones now.....:D :p

I've tried the "ease into it" approach and for me, did NOT work at all. Better to catch all the heat upfront....over time (hopefully) she'll get over it and realize it's a part of you she's just going to have to adjust to.

My latest iteration......buying the 71 Nova while she was away visiting MY parents....:o

"Welcome home, Dear.....by the way......did you see that car out front?"

Oh, yeah...almost forgot....

There's always the "Why do you need so many shoes?" argument....Every once in a while that won't backfire terribly....

Forgot to add: Have a nice date well-planned in advance (but to take place AFTER the khuk-bomb). Be sure she knows you appreciate her putting up with your CRAP.

Ok...maybe I'm the only one that needs this.... :footinmou

The too many shoes thing always bits me in the a$$..."WELL, MAYBE NEXT YEAR I SHOULD JUST GO TO YOUR COMPANY CHRISTMAS PARTY IN MY WORN OUT MUDDY COMBAT BOOTS INSTEAD OF HEELS??!!"

and I also pamper the lil' lady quite a bit when I know I've pushed the limits, she knows damn good and well I'm just buttering her up and kissing a$$, but she appreciates it anyways, and it does lessen the earful she's bound to give me.

I was gonna say, that in the end it's just another knife or khukuri, stable finances are more important, youshouldn't do it if it's gonna create waves in the marriage, but....

After reading some of the responses posted here I'm about half tempted to take bite the bullet and get myself one too.... :D

Just for the record, I'm purchasing two. I'm fairly sure that some other forumites will also be purchasing two or more. I know that I don't need both; I'm buying two for the simple reason that one of my friends may want one and it's a special order item.

If you absolutely positively cannot get one at this time, there may be some spares floating around. I wouldn't bet a paycheck on it but it is something to consider.

I put down for two from the beginning. I want to make a shield with two beautiful matched and fullered blued khukuris on it. :D

Depending on the amount and it appears there is considerably over 30 of the Foxy Follys being ordered Uncle Bill may order a few extras seeing as how it is so popular.
I'm thinking we'll see a few along from the kamis as well as time goes by. At least I'm hoping so.
Too me the Foxy Folly is the epitome of what a khukuri should be!!!! :D

Better make up your mind's quick!!!! Time is quickly running out!!!!! :p ;)

Good call, Yvsa.

I hadn't heard of this forum when the YCS was introduced but they still roll out from time to time. (And hopefully, one of these times, I'll snag one.) Same with the seax. I'd hate to bet on it, but I'm guessing that FF's will roll out in dribs and drabs for some time after the purchase.

I don't consider ordering two as having as spares myself. I plan to use one and consider the other an object of art - I am assuming that an excellent job will be done on these. If you only buy one and it is very nice, would you make it a user? I know many people will answer yes, but I imagine a significant number will answer no.

I would have to order 3 to consider having a "spare". OINK!

I was fortunate to snag a YCS last week. I don't know its vintage. UB may have had it in cold storage for a long time. So for those that don't get in on this order, there is a possiblilty of a few popping up later but then you will have to out-shark or out-OINK others.

Gotta go against the grain on this one.....

If you've gotten to know at least one khuk well and like it, the Foxy Mini will probably be a great buy. Forward weight makes a good chopper, fullers are sexy, and every last detail has been dialed in by our resident experts.

Otherwise, hold out for an 18"AK. You can snag one for less money, and you won't feel any guilt about using it. I suspect the extra two inches will be pretty valuable in hard use. The AK handle will likely be longer, a double-plus if you have big hands. I think it's a better intro khuk.

Keep in mind, I only have a big Foxy's Folly, so err toward what Dan and Yvsa say, since they've handled the mini models and can compare it directly to the AK.

"mini" is definitely relative here....!

You think? I notice that since the YCS that a couple others have come in and come up for sale for way less than we paid. Same with some other models. I love khukuris, but I have been looking and it seems they usually sell for less than what one originally paid.
