Hello - Need some advice. While enjoining a Friday night back yard fire in a one of those raised fire pits with the family. I unwittingly placed my wetterlng 19”axe on the pits metal base for about 30min or so. The heat from the pit transferred to the axe handle and axe head. The axe got extremely hot (not smoking) but very hot. Do I have to worry about damaging the steel integrity? Thanks for your help.

Did the steel turn any color at all where it got hot? Straw yellow is right around 400*F and a starting point for most tempering. Time is also a function, if it was that hot for 30 min I don't think I would worry too much. What part of the head got hot? The whole thing? Test the edge with a file if you are concerned.

I think there is very little chance of damage to the heat treat of the axe.
