Just profiled a little Persian skinner. Plan to grind tomorrow and HT and at least snap temper before beddy-by time. I've got specs but would rather ask advise from knife makers that have experience with D2 heat treat. I'll be doing it in an Even Heat and using foil wrap. This is my first D2.

Thanks; Roger

Make sure your foil packet is airtight and put a small piece of paper inside to burn up any air inside. Preheat to 1500, I leave the packet on top of the oven to warm up and put it in when the oven reaches 1500. Harden from 1850-1875 and quench in warm air. Keep a pair of scissors handy and when you take the packet out of the oven snip off the end, and use needle nose pilers to pull the blade out. I turn on my shop vaccum and hold the blade over the hose to remove the heat more quickly. Test with a file when you can touch it bare handed and it should skate off. Temper at 350 for 1 hr. I have had great results doing things this way. I actually just did 2 blades this morning.

The blade needs to soak at the 1850 for 10 to 30 minutes. For a thin blade, say 1/8" just do it for 10 minutes. I've always done a double temper, think it was two hour twice. Make sure the surface is the way you want it before heat treat. Tuff stuff to try to get pretty afterwards. Good steel to bead blast...Ray
