Advise for trading in my Spyderco H. Viele C42S

Hi all,

Before, I just want to say, that this is not a topic with the intention to sell or trade in my Spyderco with one of the forum members. I only need advise on my upcoming trade with a collector in the vicinity of my home.

Recently I found a mint condition unused C42S Howard Viele.

I'm not yet a collector of Spyderco, I'm a Spyderco user, that uses a knife in daily life and work.

So because I don't want to abuse a nice vintage Spyderco, I figured it will be in better hands of a collector who will cherish te knife.

So I wanted to trade my C42S for a new paramilitary 2 ( s110v or s30v )

But is this trade worth the Howard Viele?
Any other suggestions for what I may can ask to trade with the collector will be great!

I don't think you can ask this, not 100% sure. But definitely look on auction sites and stuff before doing that trade.

Thanks for your reaction, I find it quite important, because I just want a fair trade for both parties.
 
With trades, it isn't always about monetary value. As long as YOU are happy with how a trade works out for your, nobody else's opinion matters. That said, if finding out later that there is a significant value disparity would disappoint you, do your homework before doing a trade.
 
To tell you guys the truth, I don't know anything of the value of the C42S, I really like Spyderco, but I don't know what the C42S is worth in the case of trading. Off course I understand the collector that he wants the knife probably as cheap as possible. But I'm certain he will understand if I want something that is worth it. Just want to make a fair trade, I like a lot of Spyderco models, but I don't know what model I can ask, because I don't know anything of values of old Spyderco knives. And, I live in the Netherlands, it's not so easy to find one here, probably i am the only one that has one for sale right now, so it is really difficult to estimate the value for me.

... we can't tell you trade values. Take my advice and look your knife up on auction and collector sites. The Paramilitary can be bought for $110-120 new from an authorized dealer.

Alrighty, thanks for the advice, I will contact te collector that I want to do some more research before trading. 😁👍🏻

Well, it should be pretty close, otherwise you could just sell your item, buy the one you're trying to get, and have some cash leftover.

I would keep the Viele. Great well styled knife.
Pick up a PM2 for yourself and have both to play with.
Seriously, you'll kick yourself for getting rid of that Viele.
