I don't have much experiece with big knives and I don't use them much but I have a want for another one. :
Strider AR (+) I like the classic look very "cool" looking. A non-attention getting clip. Machined G10 scales. Good steel.
(-) The fit and finish may not meet with my approval? How does the thick blade cut?
ZT0300 (+) Looks cool. Smple clip. Machined scales. Good steel. I know Kershaw has excelent fit and finish.
(-) I don't know if I like the Onion "S" curve on the blade? Can I sharpen with an Edge Pro?

NOTES: I am not a comando and I don't use my knife as a Multi Tool, I just want a big knife for yard work and in the woods camping, etc.

why no fixed blade?

for a big folder i'd look into the spyderco manix especially since it's going out of production.

Gull Wing---- Look at Busse and Bark River. Start there. That might be where you stop though. Good Luck.

Sounds like what you need is a kaiser blade, some folks call it a kaiser blade..
That would be for yard work, and for camping a good Acme hatchet works fine..

The extra large Cold Steel Voyagers are good knives for the price.

I have an older version of the four inch plain edge tanto. I've used and abused that thing and it still opens well and locks tight.
I've also got a SOG Spec-Elite II. I really like it. It's big, but it feels good in my hand and carries well. I've been carrying it everyday since I bought it three months ago.

Don't let that MSRP scare you. I bought mine new for $75.00. The only problem I have had from the Spec-Elite II is the blade got a bit loose when I did some very heavy chopping on some tree limbs. I should have been using a machete anyway. But I tightened it up with a torx driver, and it was good as new.

if ya intend to carry the thing in a pocket i would get a SmF or SnG vs the AR, the AR is simply too big/thick for edc imho, its more at home in a sheath. besides, i dont think a AR is gonna do much a SnG wont.

the ZT knives are good too, i prefer strider myself FWIW.

Thank you for the input.
I will look at each of them carefully.
SIFU1A,
I do intend to pocket carry, I didn't know the AR was so thick. Now the SMF and SNG = What about the big butts and small necks? How do they feel in hand? They seem out of balance?

strider folders are all large, as are the zt's.

the ar/gb are exceptionally huge, and not real pocket friendly.

the sng and smf, though large, carry much better in the pocket.

Gull Wing---- Handle a SnG if you can. They feel great in the hand. I have one?

Ok guys, I'm taking the opposite view and say that yes you can pocket carry an AR. Maybe one reason is that I carry nothing but my edc knife in my rf pocket, and another is that I managed to put a foldover clip on my AR so that the ENTIRE knife goes in my pocket with only the clip to show. Another reason, and important one, is that I do not wear tight pants! Tight pants would bring an end to my AR pocket carrying abilities!! But it can be done and it doesn't have to be uncomfortable doing it.

Thanks Lycosa,
I doubt if I can handle any of these, so one more question :
How thick is the SNG and SMF blades?

oh sure ya CAN edc a AR, i did it for a few weeks, it sure sucked though lol, they are simply too big for that, unless ya wear BDU's 24/7, i know they are not the best for carrying in a jeans pocket. oh, i dont wear tight fitting pants either. so yes it can be done, ya can edc a S&W 29 with a 8" bbl too, but its not the best choice of a edc pistol, imho anyway lol.

now a SnG on the other hand is imho one of the better folders as far as ease of carry, they really carry well, feel great in the hand too, and ya know what else, the blade length on a AR and SnG isnt all thsat diffent really, i really dont think ya can do too much with a AR ya cant with a SnG, except heavy outdoors use i suppose.

so if a SnG will do most of what a AR will do, and carry a whole lot better, why deal with the hassle of an AR for edc?? ya got me on that one lol.

imho the SnG carries a lot better than an SmF, the SmF is to me right on the line of being too big, but even then its a lot better edc than an AR, or a GB for that matter, beleive me i have tried all 4.

if it wasnt for my emerson custom specwar CQC13(cost about $1200) i would probably edc a SnG, they are great knives imho.
