I need some good titles on begining knife making (fixed blades). Better yet some on doing it w/ a small budget since loads of power tools are out of the question at this point. Any advise would be welcome.

Thanks
Jeff

Ok let's see if I get this right. "The $50 knife shop" by Wayne Goddard. He also has one caled "The wonder of knifemaking". Seems to be a good place to start.

I cut my teeth with "How to make knives" by Loveless and Barney. There are sections in it on Doing things with hand tools, power tools and forging. Also, like Insanity said, the Goddard books are a very good resource as well.

Good luck and keep us posted with your questions and progress.

The previous suggestions are great, I have them and I couldn't recomend them more. The book that got me hooked was 'Step-By-Step Knifemaking: You Can Do It!' by David Boye. Also another good book, with lots of good basic information on how to make knives with simple tools is Tim McCreight's book 'Custom Knifemaking: 10 Projects From a Master Craftsman'.

I'll second Baumr's suggestion. It's got all you need to get started. Forging, grinding, sheath making, etc. :D

Get all the knife making books you can Jeff.
Every book I got had something extra in it the others didn't have.
Even books on folder making will help you improve your fixed blades and you'll eventually move to folders anyway.
