Got my Advocate today, I couldn't wait any longer for them to get the supposed problem fixed and sorted out. Needless to say, mine is perfect!! It was gritty at first, just washed it in a nice hot water and soap bath, lubed it up and WOW!! This thing is a flipping demon! If your on the fence, get one. I'd say the problems begin with the people who took them apart. I don't ever take my knives apart for this reason. IMG_0644.JPG

Nice Josh! The Advocate has been on my want list since it was first announced. I just haven't pulled the trigger on one yet. I'm sure I'll eventually end up with one.

I had it. I never took it apart and left the pivot alone. It seemed tight but I didn't, I don't like to adjust it before I oil it with Nano oil. I usually wait a little while for the knife to break in. I did that and it got very rough to open and close. It was definitely the washers. I also have a Southard that I have for a few years and recently it got very gritty and the action was terrible. I opened it up because it was not a new knife, both washers were severely cupped and one of the bearings. I can understand the bearing breaking because I used it quite alot but the washers should not have cupped. It seems to be a chronic problem with their flippers. I have all three Domino's and I loosened them all up a little so they would not put a lot of pressure on the washers. By the way even though this is a documented problem with the flippers they charge me for the repair anyway.
I have about 40 Spyderco's and I would have thought that they should have repaired it free of charge I didn't say anything. What I am worried about is that this will happen to me again.

You should check with Spyderco and see if they have corrected the problem and if so who has the new ones.

I sent mine in without any tampering and they told me that it was within specs and any other one would be the same.

They traded me another model of the same value.

I love the design and would buy another one if I was assured that it was one that has the issue corrected. I will not buy one of the original pivot design.

The problem is that it is not the only models to have that problem. I just sent my Southard back for the same problem. I think they use the same washers on the Domino too. I have 3 dominoes and I loosened the pivots a little bit so it wont happen to them too. I love the term they use after you having spent $200 on a knife and you have other knives in you collection to compare it too and they tell you it is within their spec's and tolerances. What they are saying is tough luck. Then when you send it in they charge you for it even though a lot of people have had this same problem and you tube video's of that problem are abundant.
Why can't Knife companies just own up to the problems and find a solution instead of acting the same way car companies do and deny that problem exists even after 10 cars blew up for the same reason.

Ok enough of the bitching about Spydercos bearing and pivot system. If you want to bitch about it go somewhere else for fucks sake. I know plenty of people, actually lots that don't have any problems with spydercos bearing system. Is it perfect? No. But it does work fine. Back to the Advocate being a nice knife.

First of all I don't see any indication in your profile that you are a moderator, on that note if you don't like what is being discussed why don't you leave this thread and go to Whine and Cheese and bother them all you want. People that own Spyderco's have a right to know what is going on especially at the prices they charge. They also recalled alot of advocates an halted production. So in your language that is not supposed to be used in these threads Why don't you go somewhere else for fucks sake.

Some people think there real big behind a computer screen. Thanks for totally fucking the point of my post up, congratulations.

Edit: Closed this side show down before it gets out of hand, because some people can't keep there fat little mouths shut.
