Hello folks, I'd like your knowledgeable opinions on this adze head please.

Bought some time ago at a flea market with a very short straight wooden handle in rough shape.

My first thoughts was that the handle had been cut down from a long one.

But, searching about for images of a similar adze to get an idea whether it would have had the typical long shaped handle or a short handle it dawned on me that this particular head seems to have too much curve to it.

Tape measure resting against inside wall of handle socket to show alignment.

So, hand adze? Long handle adze? Or adze that's been heated up & bent

Anybody got one with as much "sweep"?

The stamp looks like it's from Oxhead, and here's an new Oxhead adze that looks sort of similar (but not as curved), on a "non-OEM" handle:

The increased curvature reminds me of these surplus italian "hand adzes" that were on short handles:

Thanks C.M.

See how yours has a nice clean sweep though?

Thanks Steve Tall,

Still smoother sweep on the hand one & shallower on the long handle ones. The Oxhead "D" is close but still looks "flatter".

Mine looks like it might have been heated & bent, or maybe mine's just badly made or bad design.

I don't think yours was altered at all. Rather it looks like it's made for cutting at a tighter radius.
