Interesting piece you've got. And very nice to see you actually using it. Is is possible a tool like this is called a scorp by virtue of the scalloped blade? Adzes I'm familiar with have straight blades,

That is an Adze it doesn't have to be flat. Scorps are hand carving tools.

Confirmed, adzes can be rounded. Sometimes called a gutter adze (with long handle) or bowl adze.

I would also be interested to know where you got it- looks like a superb piece. I have been looking for one like this.

Seeing that 'gutter adze' is mentioned I had to retrieve my old copy (1964) of "a Museum of Early American Tools" by Eric Sloane to have a look. Your short handle likely qualifies as a 'cooper's adze'. Seems there are two versions of scorps: 'open' and 'closed' but yes they are held in the hand and not meant for swinging.
In any case, nice of you to share pictures of this, and what it can do.

Lovely stuff, Tishler. You don't see many adzes in this forum.
Neat choice of handle too. Bravo!

That is a very fine looking adze! Excellent work. The shape and angles look really good. Nice bowl also! Is the bowl cherry?

Speaking of adzes, my buddy just posted these that his cousin found in Hawaii over the years.

Not trying to hijack the thread, just a coincidence that I looked at this a minute before he posted the pictures on FB.
