Greetings everyone,

Here is an EDC that I finished up the day before I headed off to the 2016 Ashokan Bladesmithing Seminar. I photographed it, but never had a chance to post it before I left. The blade is AEB-L, and the cutting edge is just under four inches. The handles are stabilized Lignum Vitae with white G10 liners. I was pretty happy with how it came out, and someone snatched it right up at Ashokan.

That's lovely!
How much stabilizing does Lignum Vitae take? I've only used it once.

I had the same question. Lignum vitae is a very dense wood so it shouldn't absorb much resin and many would just polish and maybe wax the wood .

Nice looking knife, Chris. You put the steel type on the blade but no maker's mark?

Thanks guys! My name is on the left side of the blade, it just didn't show up in the photo. I send my wood out for stabilization, either to K & G or to WSSI. One of them, I forget which, will stabilize most any wood, while the other has a list of woods that the don't recommend stabilizing. Obviously, this wood went to the one that said they could do it. It polished up nicely with just pink buffing compound. I'm on my way to work, but I'll see if I can identify which place I sent it to when I get home.

I found my paperwork. The Lignum Vitae was stabilized by Knife & Gun Finishing Supplies in December of 2011. In addition, I sent, and they stabilized, some Ancient Kauri, African Blackwood, Kingwood, Yew, Black Locust, Red Heart, Cherry, Mango, Mopani, Olive, Osage Orange, Sycamore, Spalted Maple and Koa. So far, all of the wood that I've used from that shipment has worked out well.
