Hi all. Tough times. I have been using True Grit for heat treating for the last 4 years. I believe that they are closed because of the California restrictions. Is anyone still operating that can heat and cryogenic-ally treat AEB-L?

What was your cost per blade at trugrit? Didn't know they did HT.

I've used JT here and he's great, I know for sure he's still open, and if I was doing smaller batches, i'd go to him.

Anything over 5-6 knives and i've been using peters - their great but known for if it's thin stock using torches to straighten them. I have been using thicker stock (.135 & .165) and not having any come back with anything less than fantastic results.

They are not closed, you can send in blades. They are not allowing walk in customers

Yeah I just talked to em too. Their ovens were down for a while due to the elements going out but should be up and running now.

I rarely send more than 9 knives so it is $10 per + $2 for foil and $4 for cryo. Jeff sends them back straight and flat.

I haven't used JT as I do my own but from what I've seen hes very diligent about provide great service to make sure his customers are happy.

I have to say that Jarod is amazing, he even has a service where he will supply the AEB-L, cut it to your specifications, heat treat it and send it to you. Prices are very reasonable as well. I got 6 blanks from him a while back, 2 for kitchen knives at HRC 63-64 and 4 hunting knife blanks at 61-62. I've ground both kitchen knives and 2 of the hunting knives, absolutely perfect.

We have been wanting to find a way to do bulk discounts. So we are going to try it for a month and see how it goes. Would be similar pricing structure to true grit. We know the world is in a tight spot right now and we want to help our fellow knife makers.

JT you don’t need to sell, your a bladeforums rock star. Thanks for all your posting over the years. I am always stunned by the time you devote to the rest of us. All the best!
