Aegis discontinued

I have heard a few times in the last week or so that the SOG Aegis is discontinued. Wanted to see if this is accurate and to share some thoughts. I really like many things about the Aegis, blade shape, ergos, speed, even the pocket clip. Having said all that this knife is okay but could be great. It's theoretically a good design but needs: a real arc lock instead of the piston lock (one of the worst locks I've ever encountered, I've never held one that didn't have up and down play). It also needs a more solid handle material cold steel has more than proven that an all g10 handle is very strong and can be done for a reasonable price. Lastly it needs a much lower price point. These changes would make this an amazing knife. My suggestion would be sure discontinue the Aegis then come back with the Aegis 2 which can be what the first one should have been anyway. Please don't take this the wrong way I actually really like the Aegis I like it but want to love it.

I agree on all your suggested changes. It would be a much better knife. The only problem is the price would not come down, it would go up. I would be fine with this as well though.

An Aegis with G-10, arc-lock, and even VG10? Yes please! I would pay a similar price as the other seki folders for a such a knife.

VG 10 would be great, if these changes were made you'd probably have a good $70-$100 blade but SOG would want $200 (I'm exaggerating a little to make my point).

That's an interesting thought. When I visited the G.Sakai factory in Seki about two months ago, I was told that in addition
to the folders for SOG, they were also shipping them some components for US assembly. If the Aegis is one of them that would
mean all the tooling is there, and VG10 blades could be adopted.

My AE-02 has no blade play whatsoever, but it arrived with a bent clip ... been waiting nearly 5 weeks and still haven't received the replacement clip I ordered. I agree with the proposed changes. The blade shape and grind is perfect. If it had G-10 handles, better steel and a better lock, I'd pay $125 for one if it was from Seki. Let's face it, an equivalent from Spyderco or Benchmade would be at about the price point, if not a bit higher.

If you used their on line clip order thing you may never get that clip. I did that like 4 times and it never worked. You should call them.

Agreed on all points. Not to mention the wobbly clip.

Saw the Aegis when it came out years back and I loved the classic aesthetic and overall design for EDC (that was it's main selling point). The blade shape is very reminiscent of chef's knife. Then came the Mini which I loved even more. What kept me from ever owning one were all these consistent complaints about it.

A fantastic design that was poorly executed. Like you though, I'm hoping for the Gen. 2 version to be better.

SOG guys, please make this happen!
