Aegis Question

I'm a new knife hobbiest so bear with me.

I recently, picked up a new Aegis and the release button on the side doesn't go all the way forward when opened. Is this normal? The reason I'm asking is it has blade play up and down until I manually push the button forward which, eliminates the blade play.

I emailed warranty support at sog and Lindsay replied saying blade play in excess of 1/16" should be returned for correction. I never got an answer regarding the release button. Before I send it in I thought I would post the question here.

Here are a couple weak pics I snapped of the Aegis. I've seen coops posts and will build a light box soon.

Can you take a pic of the blade open but how the release naturally falls before you have to push it forward?
 
I would ask Chris@SOG and see what he says. When you were explaining the issue before I was going to say mine does the same thing but you have a lot of space between the left side of the opening. I'll try to get a pic up of mine to show you what it should look like. It doesn't go all the way to the left but its very close.

That doesn't look right tho, it should be closer to the left.

Have you tried loosening the pivot screw a tad? If the tension is too much it may just be holding up the blade from opening all the way. Try adjusting the pivot screw if you haven't already and see if that helps.

I'll try to get a pic up of mine so you can see what I would call an "acceptable" position.
 
I did try loosening the pivot but the result was play left to right and the up and down remained the same. The side button didn't change possitions at all.

I think there is an issue blade lock not engaging fully on your knife. I would say send it in ask them to check/tighten the blade lock.

I Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a normal thing as its my first SOG. I have the info for sending it in for repair and will do so.

Update:

The issue with the locking/release button is corrected. I didn't send it in just just a little lubricant and let it set for a day and it works great now without any blade play.

Here is an image showing the new possition of the lock/release button.

Nice looking knife. Does anyone know if the clip on this knife can be changed to lefty carry? Thanks
