Hi there

I recently purchased an Applegate Fairbairn on E bay which is described as follows:

APPLEGATE FAIRBAIRN AF-543 BLACK GREY CAMO KNIFE

11" overall length, 6" blade.

Double edge dagger blade of 440C stainless steel, Rockwell 58 HRC. Non-reflective, satin finished blade with black and grey camouflage pattern.
Combat version blade has double-conical dagger grinding on both sides. Double fine edged blade is sharpened on both sides. Tactical Grey colored durable Delrin® handle. Black stainless steel double finger guard. Special production black Cordura sheath has snap closure and includes leg strap. Multi-adjustable belt loop enable many carry postions.
Special Limited Run knife.

It has Boker solingen on the one side and Germany 440c stainless on the other, the catalogue number appears to be 543 Camo

Please will you give me some more info on this knife such as
- Why was it developed as a limited run knife ?
- When were these manufactured ?
- Why does it not have the signatures on the blade like the other models ?
- How many knives were made ?
- Why no serial number ?

Its an interesting piece and its the 1st time Ive seen one of them on any forum or site so I snapped it up. If I can figure out how to post a photo I will.

Thanks

Hi yankee23a

Here are some answers to your questions:

Please will you give me some more info on this knife such as
- Why was it developed as a limited run knife ?
A: We wanted to see, if there is a market for these camo blades

- When were these manufactured ?
A: in the past two years or so

- Why does it not have the signatures on the blade like the other models ?
A: because it would have been no clear signature, hard to read, so we left it out

- How many knives were made ?
A: 250 pcs.

- Why no serial number ?
Question: Isn't your handguard stamped with a serial number?

I hope this helps!!!

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

I was kinda hoping that it was issued to some or the other branch of the German military SF or something like that- just makes life more interesting hey :-)

BTW- the handguard does not have a serial number on it, I also checked another photo on the internet and couldnt see one on that knife either, could the factory have left these off as they were 1st production run maybe ?

We have delivered the black AF dagger to the Bundeswehr (German army) ans some special units...

Thanks, your quick response and the info provided is much appreciated.

Btw- I really do like the sheath design on the camo version, it really lends itself to quick, easy attach/detachment.

These were cool knives. I have two of them.
The grey handle is a nice change from the usual black.
