Well, I'm about to order an AFCK. Anybody have any ideas for alternatives? Requirements are...
equally long blade (lets say 3.8inch min) or longer (longer better)
black blade
part serrated blade
similar price point (+/-$40 lets say)
at least as quick opening as axis lock, assisted opening is a plus.
I would have already ordered it, but the blade looks kinda slender from pics I see on the net and I rather have something a bit beefier.
Thanks

Not an Axis lock, but the Emerson Commander would fit in well, with the Wave opener and such. The 710 in any variation would fit as well. If you want beefie, the Benchmade Skirmish or one of the Cuda MAXX folders would fit the bill as well, plus the MAXX's can be had with "robo-assist" opening.

I've been looking a lot at the Spec Bump. G10, ~3.5 inches, assisted opening, flipper (!), black blade....very cool...almost bought one myself...and I still want one.

Benchmade Ares (730,732,735)
Great knife. Beefy blade. Pretty colored & sculpted G10, axis lock.
It'll make you happy.

yeah but the blades .36 inches shorter than the afck. I may just get the AFCK.This will be my kershaw avalanche replacement (put it down on a table, was gone when I got back...yeah I know I was stupid to leave it). I hope it can live up to the task (D2 blade better be able to take some abuse).

It holds a great edge. I have that knife and have been able to maintain the edge with a strop for a long time.

I hear it can be a little brittle, though.

To people who think that way, any knife looks mean. To the rest of us, the real mean-looking knives get a laugh.

Oh, OK, the CIVILIAN looks mean to everyone! :D

Surprisingly few people I run into actually think that way. What I mean by "mean" is I don't want it to look dainty. I don't want it to look like I'm ambusing some nice knife (part of the reason for wanting a coated blade).

A coated blade will look a lot more abused than an uncoated one? It scratches pretty easily!
