AFCK blade material change?

Didn't the AFCK used to be available with two different blade materials? Did we end up with the better of the two?
Thanks,
Richard

They offered ATS-34 and M2 in parallel for quite some time.

Its D2 now. Better than ATS-34? yeah - but maybe not as corrosive resistant though (but the D2 is coated, so its a moot point I think). Better than M2? Since the M2 blades were coated, I think corrosive resistence was not an issue either. If youre going to have the D2 and M2 coated- I would pick the M2 blade.

the later ones were 154CM rather than ATS34, all are good steels though imho

The 806 came out nearly two years ago?!

"i think he's talking about the AFCK (or AFCK11) not the axis AFCK, "

What's the axis AFCK? The one I'm talking about was made by Benchmade, called the AFCK, looked just like the current ones, and now that I think about, did indeed come in ATS-34 and M2 variants. Who said anything about 2 years though?
Richard

The original AFCK (I think the model number was 800) was a liner locking knife with titanium liners. It came in ATS-34 or M2. I owned a ATS-34 one, because corrosion is a problem if you are in the field and unable to clean your knife for whatever reason. The only problem with the knife was that there was a alot of flex in the handle, and this made the liner lock hard to disengage.

The 806 (same blade and handle but with an AXIS lock) came out a couple of years ago, and as far as I know it is only avalible in D2. I got one last month, and I really like the D2. The handle flex has been eliminated by the stainless steel liners. I was initially worried I might disengaged the AXIS lock by accident while stabbing someone, but having filed down the thumb side of the lock makes this sort of unlikely, as does a consistant forward grip.

I like the fine edge that M2 and ATS34/154CM can provide, but D2 is a tough hard working steel on its on

I am hoping that Benchmade will offer the 806 in S30V. I like the way they allow for the user to choose the way they want to mount the pocket clip (tip-up/tip-down for right/left carry). I wish that more production knife companies would do this.
