AFCK crooked when closed: is there a fix?

Hi everyone. I have a Benchmade AFCK, and when it is closed, the blade is off-center. When I open it from that position, using the thumb hole, I hear and feel a tiny grinding of the blade on the liner.

I can't swear to this, but I think that the knife was straight, or at least straighter, when I first got it, but at some point, I took it apart and when I got it reassembled, that's when I noticed the crookedness.

Anyone know of any reasons for why it would close crooked; and more importantly, anyone know of a way to fix it?

Thanks for any help.

For some reason the AFCKs did that a lot. Loosen the pivot screw, gently push the blade in the direction you want it to go, then retighten the pivot screw. Sometimes this works and then other times you may have to loosen all the screws in the handle and then adjust from there. You may have to do this procedure several times to get it right.

I have an original AFCK ive had for years. Great knife. Benchmade will recenter ir for you if you send it in.

Just send it to Benchmade and they will make it good and sharpen it for you if you want. Kevin

You will likely never completely get rid of that rubbing on an afck. You can minimize it by making sure to only push in the opening direction instead of applying pressure to the side. Getting the blade to sit in the center of the handle when closed isn't that hard, just takes some tweaking of the screw tensions and maybe some flexing of the handle until it sits straight. About the only way to actually eliminate *edit: the rubbing and inconsistent blade centering* it is to hand fit some bronze washers or use stiffer handle scales.

Sorry about the thread placement. It's been a while since I hung around here, and I don't even remember having seen a "tinkering" section before. Thanks for the steer, Cougar.

Hmm, I guess I'll tinker with the knife some, since I have the Blue Box already :p and if it doesn't work I'll send it back for service. (I like the edge I put on it, so I'll have to ask them not to do anything to it, and I hope they don't take offense. Plus, I hope they don't look at it and go, "He thinks this is sharp?!" even though yes, I do, although it may not be 100% perfectly pretty.)
