Afck grail on the way

I'm sorry but I need to share my excitement over the trade I locked down today from a fellow forum member. I finally have my grail on the way...806-1101! I've been on the hunt for one since I discovered them after joining this site and was finally able to lock down a trade at the right time.

I don't believe in safe queens. I'd rather enjoy and use a knife the way it was intended. But this one is my dream knife and is so beautiful, not to mention almost impossible to replace so it's going to be a tough decision.

Hope everyone doesn't mind that I shared this news of mine but I had to post where I knew people would appreciate it. My friends and old lady just don't understand what I mean when I say I have a grail on the way haha.

Congrats!

Good that looks like it was a safe queen too. If you never plan on selling it why not EDC it? cutting tape, envelopes and boxes may scratch up the coating on your blade, but in no way is that or even some heavier EDC work going to damage that beauty. I say use it and pass it down to a relative that will appreciate it.

I love your response...thank you! I really hate to watch beautiful knives collect dust. I always get so much more enjoyment out of using knives. But this will be my first limited edition grail which makes it a bit tougher. But I'm leaning towards using that bad boy!

Neuron I'd love to buy a second and I'm very appreciative of the offer but I had to trade for this one. Can't afford to buy one. If I happen to call into extra money you'll be the first to know!

Helderberg I will happily post pics when it's in my hand. I cannot wait!

Still don't know if I'll be able to use it. And I HATE when knives aren't used the way they were meant to. But this one is not easily replaceable. I just don't know...

Well I have a small update. I somehow won an original afck in ats-34 on an auction site for what I feel was a steal of a price. I placed a bid fully expecting to lose but luck was on my side. I'm stoked because now I can keep the limited one as a safe queen and use the original. Only thing that I'm not crazy about is the partially serrated edge on the original, but I think i will still really like it.

The 806 should arrive tomorrow so I will post pics once in hand!!

Well I got it yesterday...sorry for the lousy pics. They definitely don't do this knife justice. It's even more impressive than I expected! It's a shame this knife is a limited edition and not available to everyone all the time. It is a GIGANTIC blade however, so I could see how most people would not want to edc one.

I'm extremely anxious and curious for the original 800 in ats-34 steel to arrive this week to compare the two. That one will be a hard user for me. Can't wait!!

I'd love if anyone else could post pics of their used or safe afcks or tseks and share their thoughts or history with theirs!

I have the same 806-1101 as you, but mine is #392 of #400. Most perfect BM I own, and I consider it to be the closest thing to a Spyd Military with an axis-lock. A dream of mine :)
Mine has been carried and used for a few years but barely shows any wear other than on the clip.
You wouldn't be able to tell a difference between mine and the one in your pics.
Therefore, I say use that thing and enjoy it because they aren't getting cheaper!
I don't have to brag on the fact that M390 takes and holds an edge for a decent spell.

Here are a few pics of some of my afck/tsek's I have stashed on Photobucket.

Thanks Bigbobg!

Huntbomb...after reading your response I'm really considering using it. It's been two days and already I can't stand just seeing it sit there not being used and appreciated. Do you have any pics of yours to post? I'd love to see it after being carried and used for a few years.

Neuron thanks for posting those! What a great collection! Each one looks to be in mint condition still...are they all safe queens or do you use any of them?

Nice, congrats on the new score...shes a beauty. It does seem like 9 out of 10 that you see go up for sale have the partial serrations. Ive never been able to warm up to serrations so its a bummer for me. Anyhow enjoy your new knife.

Back in the early / mid 90's and 00's Combo edges were more common and popular and what most people preferred.

I think that's why you'll see most of these older models in CE.

My original AFCK (Mid/ late 90's) and Strykers 2003-2005 are all CE's. That's what you got back then.

ETA: OP, beautiful knife you have there. Congratulations twice for being able to pick up an 800 AFCK too. They're getting rarer and rarer.

Nice score!

Here's my personal favorite after the original. The CPM-M4 steel AXIS lock version.

Very nice! I had one for awhile a few months ago, thinking it would be better than the mini-afck I had years and years ago that was too small, but for me it felt like the whole knife was just enlarged on a copy machine a couple sizes too big, a 3.5" version would be perfect. It's from a time when most companies were simply reducing or enlarging the whole knife by XX% instead of really looking at changing blade/handle sizes independently.
