AFCK-M2HSSR COATING PROBLEM?

The portion of the blade tang that the liner locks onto is not coated. Is this standard or a QC slip?

IME the liner needs to "bite" a bit into the blade tang in a way which feels like it is sticking when the thumb pushes it before the closing starts. Besides the black coat would wear off rather quickly consequently altering the fit/ lockup tolerance to a degree. So no, not a CQ problem. BM should be so lucky.

L8r,

Nakano 2 , thanks for the logical explanatioin. What did you mean when you said BM should be so lucky?

I think what Nakano means is that, given BM's spotty reputation for QC, they would be lucky if something was specifically a instance of good QC.

Mine is not coated there either. Let me also add that the BT2 finish really sucks! Has to be one of the worst wearing finishes out there. I know Benchmade says that it protects even when scratched, but it looks like $hit. When is Benchmade going to use tougher finishes like titanium carbonitride?

The BT2 finish is not for life IMHO. Steel like the M2HS might stain or rust with out your loving matianance. I guess you should have got the stainless and not HS if you are worried about how your blade looks. I like mine and all the scrathes.

Hello,

We are now testing 710HS ans as far as we are concern we like the way BT2 get old !

We like the scratches !

I never saw M2 blade staining or rusting yet...

cheers,

JM

Well, it's either a user or a keeper.
You can't have it all.
Mine is a user, I just like it as it is.

I think that the BT2 coating wearing away is a small price to pay to be able to have the M-2 steel in this knife & have it relatively rust proof. This M-2 steel is the best steel I have personally used in a factory folder.

I've gotta agree with Nemo on M2 not rusting. My Nimravus Cub HS is going on about 6 or 7 months without it's coating now, and no rust. It hasn't even stained, in spite of cutting limes (for Coronas,

), and a few Kiwi fruit. I thought it had started to get a little patina after the Kiwi fruit. But, after cutting through some tree branches, then washing it with soap and water, the "stain/patina" was gone.
