Hello Folks.

I am the proud owner of a small AFCK. The only real benchmade in my collection. I was - and still am - a collector of knives before I started making knives. Problem : The screws that keep the ting together ( 3 small ones and 1 pivot ( 2 pivots ????)), are tapped into the g-10 scale. none of the steel liners got screw-tape. Well, as I clean it regularly, I did one screw too tight. Result: No more screw-tape in the G-10 and the screw won't hold any more. Now I could make new scales out of G-10, micarta, aluminium, horn,.... I've got about everything ever used for handle.
Or I could put it full of epoxy, but then I can't dismantle the knife any more.
Or I could send it back (all the way from Europe ! ) and have them tell me I wasted the warranty.
Or....well, there must be a lot more solutions, but what should I do best?

Might also be interesting for my own home-made folders, learning from the errors of the big guys.

thank you very much.

Well I'm definitely not one of the experts here, but there are quite a few.
But anyway, which screw did you strip the hole on? Is there any possibilty of you drilling and tapping the hole for a bigger screw? That would be pretty painless if you could do it that way, and the bigger screw wouldn't tear out so easily.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Try this, coat the threads of the screw with vasaline, then fill your striped area with good slow curing epoxy... Then just remove the screw once the epoxy sets up, it isnt as permanent as a fix but it should hold the threads about as good as the G10..
