Got a call the other day for a cardiac arrest. Upon arrival it turns out to be a heroine overdose. The paramedics get there and are trying to cut her clothes off to work her. A shift buddy hands one of them his S&W SWAT, it would not cut ****. I whip out the AFCK. Went through the bunched up shirts like butter. There was nothing I could do.....she lived.

If you think heroin's bad, think of all the misery Mercop has to put up with in his job due to alcohol. What % of violent crime is committed by people on alcohol? Not to mention car wrecks.

This is not intended to be an endorsement of heroin or a condemnation of alcohol, just to put things into perspective.

How true. If it was a perfect world and you could ban one thing to make my life easier it would be alcohol. Involved in 85% of my calls for service. I am the top DWI enforcer the past three years. After 2200 hrs it is like a kid catching fire flies. Sad, very sad.

Amazes me how many EMT's and Medics don't even carry a knife. Cool to hear you an' the AFCK helped save the day. Maybe the medics that responded will learn something, eh?

I made my comments because of all these kids who think maryjane is cool or something. It might not be as "strong" as heroin or crack cocaine, but it's still a damn drug that will cause problems in them or maybe to other innocent bystanders (especially when they're intoxicated driving in a car)
Yes I admit alcohol is another big thing and it's pretty rampant here with DUI (they've been clamping down with $1000CDN fine and immediate 24 suspension and probably thrown to jail), but in any case alcohol is much harder to be clamped down using legislation. I do drink occasionally and I only once drove after having a sip of those wine coolers. I ain't going to do that again ever... I was ok to drive but realizing that I shouldn't have done so makes me so damn angry.

Anyways enough ranting and thank good that there are guys like mercop to save those ****ing idiots who shoot enough to get a heart attack.

Well, cardiac arrest doesn't neccessarily mean that you've had a myocardial infaction, it means that the heart has arrested or stopped. Way to be prepared!

As a cop for the past seventeen years I can attest to the fact that
alcohol related calls make up the largest part of my call volume.

On 2-10 shift 10 drinks + 1 A**hole = overtime!. And a new folder, a happy wife, happy booking agents, judges, corrections officers....... Heck, now that I think about it, don't stop drinking, your contributing to the local economy and I want one of the one handed opening SAK's :D .

Just please don't drink and drive, 'cause thats just not cool. Stay safe and have a good weekend.

Whew, it's time for me to throw my first cold one back!

You forgot that this starts not with Alcohol or other drugs but with dumbasses. Its the individual that is responsible for his actions straight or dringking etc. At least here in my state its the juvenile popluation with the bulletproof "it cant happen to me" attitude and lack of responsibility that seem to be in the majority. Drugs and alchohol are a factor but its the person that is the key.

Man, Mercop, sound an awful lot like the people that want to ban guns and knives. I am still of the opinion that things can be used responsibly. If someone can enjoy alcohol responsibly you are willing to punish him because others cannot? Sounds a lot like the people that want to pass laws against ownership and carrying of guns for law abiding citizens because others abuse them.:barf:

One2gofst, I don't think Mercop really meant to ban alcohol. He acknowledged that alcohol *abuse* has major negative consequences to society.

My original point was *against* more laws. And the repeal of many we have. Calyth, a Bladeforumer who I really respect, made a comment about heroin, shaking his head. I thought to myself...there's no question it's bad, but what about the *real* bad stuff? Why do we overlook it like it's not there?

Here's the parallel to my own situation that I know you will appreciate One2go: We've been waging a losing battle against gun grabbers in California for so many years. I've been on the front lines along with many other freedom-oriented folks. The people who are behind the gun grabbing have convinced many folks that laws against guns are the solution to crime and needless deaths. One thing I've tried to do is convince people that they're ignoring the real causes of our problems, and it's not the possession of guns by law-abiding owners.

Sorry if I caused this thread to veer off-topic!

Best regards,

Johnny
