Hey fellas, you know over the past year or so, i have noticed ever since i bought my buck nano bantam, I grew this attachment to knives ever since. Every time I go into sports chalet, or some outdoor goods store, i make a bee line to the knife section. Now keep in mind this didnt happen before i owned a knife. Im just trying to pin point what it is with my delica, bantam, adrenaline, and edc gerber that seems so..well... sexy? :p Anyhow, there is clearly a psycological connection with owning these puppies, because I always feel i dont have enough haha. any of you feel the same weakness i do?

I find myself mostly interested in edges. For example, my parents bought some new kitchen knives (From tromontina of Bazil actually) and my first action was to test the edges. Found a burr so I steeled it and then stropped it on my pants leg.

Then tonight when me, my friend and my girl were in my friends garage just talking, I went over to look at their axes and noted how thick the edges looked and thought about how I'd take the angle down, imagining how much better it'd slice into wood that way.

I think I'm more into sharpening than I am knives themselves. :p

what would u recommend to sharpen a spyderco if u dont mind me askin. i've recently become ocd with sharpness too lol.

Your gonna get some regular answers like "get a sharpmaker or an edge pro".

Not that theres anything wrong with that. Personally I own a sharpmaker myself and I love it. Of course I dont use the base much now since my EDC knife bevels dont match the sharpmaker so ive been going free hand. Just havent had the time and ive been too lazy to grind down the edge. Still, im glad that my friend first gave me a small DMT and that I learned to free hand sharpen first.

My advice? Get some stones or diamond plates or whatever floats your boat and learn to free hand first. After that, go for some of those guided systems if you like since they do make sharpening somewhat faster. Another reason is because its a heck of a lot easier to throw one of those small DMTs in your pocket instead of a sharpmaker set if your on the go.

Anyway, I too caught the knife bug a long time ago. Unfortunetly I really can't afford it but through saving I manage a few knives. I think most, if not all, members on BF have the same feeling as you.

I know exactly how you feel. I bought a short Kabar not awhile back and ever since then, knives are always something I'm looking for deals on.

There's plenty of us in the same boat
