Hello everybody, I'm new to the forum, and I'm new at making knives too :p
I'm building a full tang knife and I'm planning to make a guard ground with the knife sided by two german silver bolsters.
I've seen quite a lot of methods of affixing them
From what I've read, I can
Solder them
Pin them with small pins and epoxy resin.
Pin them with rebated pins
Affix them with threaded large pins.

Which is the best method?
Which is the method you would advice a novice to use as the easiest or the one with the best complexity/effectiveness ratio?

Should I choose to solder the bolsters, have I to pin them too?
Which is the melting point of german silver?
Is it compatible with soldering?

Thank you in advance to anybody who will answer all these questions!

I have heard that we called it german silver until World War 2. We changed the name to nickel silver when we got mad at the Germans. I dunno.

Dunno...
Here in Italy we call it Alpacca.
My dictionary gives "german silver" for "alpacca".
Oh, by the way, does anybody know the melting temp of this alloy?

I did one in silver used pins and peened them you can't see them unless you realy look hard, hope this helps you out .david lovins

Thanks David.
This is my first knife, a full tang, nothing overly complex, but I would Like to get it as good as I can.
Lack of time and space and machinery is getting this project very complex for me...
When done with defining the blade contour I'll have to shape it all by hand with various files... So I'd like to throw away as little effort as possible in redoing things. The whole thing is already as hard as it cen get :p
