Bark River's do come up for sale, and on the trade forums, just gotta watch the exchange. I have numerous Barkies and two or three Condor products. I have to say that Condor's machetes do come very sharp, but my two smaller fixed blades from them are lacking in some ways.
I have their Nessmuk, not very sharp. The grind on my Basic 4" was much better, yet still not nearly the quality of the Barkies. There's a huge gap between the two not only in quality, but in price. I put the basic 4 through some hard use and was suprised at the edge damage it took. Then again a scandi grind is not really for batoning through seasoned oak! Then "damage" was really just some micro chipping, hard to see, but could feel it with my fingernails. The handles have also shrunk, the tang is now exposed all around the handle.
Either one will work, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Like mentioned, another option is to convex a "V" grind knife. I've done it to machetes and knives, all you need is the sandpaper and a mousepad, some skill, and patience.
